I needed a tall and stable platform for panoramas. Up to now I have been depending on a Majestic 2500. It was heavy and clumsy and I still needed crank up the post a bit to get the height I needed. The Benro TNA47AXL is much lighter and will give me 71 1/2 at the top of the post without ever extending it.

First of all, B&H does a really nice job of packing for shipping. No sign of any dents in the box which has been a problem with other vendors in the past. The paper is sublime. I'm using this now for B&W printing on my Canon Pro1000 and it Renders wonderfully. The blacks are deep the whites sparkle, and the thickness is perfect. I am very happy with this paper so far, and looking forward to how it prints in color.

Up to speed quickly from my previous SL-1 experience combined with readily available online tutorials. Auto focus settings are complex, but manageable. 10/11 burst images of a Great Blue Heron literally spearing a fish were keepers on my first BIF test (from 50 yds) with a 300 F4 and 1.4 teleconverter.

So my old APC Back-Up/Surge Protector started beeping and shutting down randomly. After a quick online search I realized the battery needed to be replaced (not bad after 12 years of constant service). Searched online for a replacement and B&H had what I wanted. Picked up the 11-24 at the Post Office; took few shots of the steering wheel; and drove right into the Talkeetna mountains. Having used fisheyes for year I thought I would know what to do with an 11mm rectilinear...but this lens is different. My instant favorite lens for off-trail Alaska landscapes. Image quality and sharpness are excellent. Distortion is very low. Makes incredible panoramas that don't look stretched out. Heavy...but it's also a 20, 17, 14,13 and 12mm! Once in my hands weight doesn't matter! Use the 11mm most but love the zoom!

I will post again after field use, but given how little is online about this device I wanted to write something now. I had eyed the gimbal for a while based on its apparent marriage of quality construction and relative light weight. Yet, handling it in person revealed the GKJr. to be a true thing of beauty. It glides like a hot knife in butter and the tensioners are easy to set at any level of resistance. I put it on a Gitzo 2541 and mounted a Nikon D800 with a NIKKOR 200-400mm f/4--a fairly heavy payload. The combo felt solid and the head took all of a second to adjust so the camera/lens just hovered. Fluid movement with the touch of a finger and a return to the start position by letting go of the camera. Exactly how it is supposed to work. And again, the precision engineering is something you can sense in how refined the glide and movement is. More later, but for now I would say this is a gorgeous luxury item well suited for travel.
