The Slik 700DX is a solid tripod. It is a heavy weight which I bought to use for astrophotography. A very stable platform for my Nikon and a 500mm lens. No wobbling when aiming the camera.

The Slik 700DX tripod legs make a solid support for my DSLR and 150 -600 mm lens paired with my Slik 2036 tripod head. They are both outstanding in their quality and looks.

I bought a Slik 340DX in 2006 and have always loved the design, materials, and features of that tripod. Recently, I've needed a tripod that goes taller and which has better stability in wind or for long exposures. I had my eyes on a Manfrotto 055XBPRO before deciding on the Slik 700DX. Both have very similar specs, but the 700DX ends up costing about half once a head is factored in to the price. First and foremost, the 700DX is HUGE. Without even raising the center column, the tripod stands 60, so with my camera mounted it-I can look through the viewfinder without hunching over at all. That is great, since raising the center shaft slightly decreases stability. The center column is divided into two tubes which can be unscrewed thus making it a short column. This is a great design feature since the tripod will sit lower with half of the column removed. The Slik DX series uses AMT (aluminum, magnesium, titanium) alloy legs and center shaft which are very strong and relatively lightweight. There are foam pads on all three legs which make it comfortable to carry draped on your shoulder as well as keeping the tripod legs warm enough to handle when it's cold outdoors. The release leg-locks are plastic, but seem durable. The legs themselves are very impressive for the price and I would not hesitate to invest in an additional head (ball or joystick/pistol grip) for them. The included pan/tilt head is metal and quite heavy, but I don't view that as a problem. The adjustment arms could certainly be shortened in future releases. Due to their length, the 700DX does not quite fit in the included carry bag without removing one or both arms. The circular quick-release plate system is well-designed and easy to use even in low-light situations.

I purchased this to assist with levelling my Slik Pro 700DX tripod and it works great. No more needing to mess with tripod legs, the leveller eliminates that troublesome task. My only complaint is that there is no protection from dirt entering the ball/socket area. This will be a problem for dusty areas like Arizona because they did put some type of grease in that area. I ended up making a clear cover from a ziplock bag to lay over the ball/socket area.

Fits the Slik 700DX tripod perfectly. I am glad I went with the 808RC4 as this combo is rock steady. The combo is somewhat heavy but the stability is worth the extra weight to me. I will not be backpacking great distances with this unit.

After losing my original Quick Release for the 700DX tripod by Slik, I ordered a new one. Make sure you measure the size of the mounting opening on the underside of your camera--I didn't and had ordered the wrong size. After receiving my order, I realized I'd ordered a Quick Release that was too large and reordered the correct 1/4-20 size. The return process was quick and efficient, and I can finally use my tripod again (I'd been searching for my lost Quick Release for a month). The replacement fits perfectly.

After being well pleased with how the Slik 600 monopod worked with my heavy Mamiya RB67 camera, I decided to try to find a tripod version of the Slik 600. The Slik 700DX appears to be the answer. My only concern was that the head looked like it may be flimsy, and from what I hear, it may be, though I don't know for sure. I didn't try the Slik head; I went with a Davis & Sanford FM18 head. I really like the way that head works with my camera and the Slik legs; I would recommend that combination. Here's a suggestion: don't spend the extra $ on the titanium finish. It looks nice, but so does the black finish. I actually like the black finish a little better, and it's $ cheaper. One warning: the 700DX is very stable, until you extend the legs real long and set them to the widest position - then the legs get wobbly. It was not intended to be used that way - use the wide positioning only for low shots (with short legs), and when the legs are long, don't widen them all the way. Following that guideline will keep the tripod very stable.

Purchase two more quick disconnect fitting in order to have one for each lens/camera used on my Slik 700DX Pro tripod. The round shape for this fitting makes it very easy to mount lenses/cameras on the tripod since position is not a critical as with other shapes of fittings. ...
