SLR picture quality in a compact camera body. I'd considered getting a camera like the Canon G11 to have a walkaround camera or one to travel with that produced great picture quality, but not the bulk of an entire SLR system. The EP-1 has exceptional picture quality (equal to my E-620) and with a pancake lens is quite portable. It also has more flexibility with the changeable lenses, and doesn't have the same problem achieving a shallow depth of field that small-sensor point-and-shoots do. I went with the EP-1 over the Panasonic Micro-Four Thirds cameras, because: 1) my E-620 batteries and cables are already compatible 2) The EP-1 can use all of my lenses (with a converter), whereas the Panasonics can AF with only some of the 4/3rds lenses. 3) I like how the JPEGs look from Olympus right out of the camera. Personal preference, but I feel like Panasonic's need more work. Cons are that it's not as small as the high-end point and shoots, and there's no onboard flash. (But I rarely use one anyway, and it works with my FL-36.) One thing I'd HIGHLY recommend getting with the camera is the Panasonic 20mm f1.7 pancake lens. It's excellent and is easily the lens I leave on it most. 5 |

I have been a photo enthusiast for many decades and had much of the best SLR (Nikon) and rangefinder equipment (Leica) in the past. Unless you are shooting in very low light, fast action or sports photography this little gem should handle most of your needs. Gone are the days where I am going to take ten pounds of equipment and a huge amount of bulk on a trip or even casual photography. This camera is a mini-computer with image stabilization and all sorts of goodies. Like any camera, much depends on the glass. If you are seriously into image quality, then I strongly recommend the Panasonic/Leica 45mm 2.8, the Panasonic 20mm 1.7 and the Panasonic zoom 7mm-14mm. Although the lenses are fairly expensive, they are far less than comparable SLR (or regular $$$$$Leica) lenses. Although many big shot photo authors are constantly underrating the quality of Micro Four Third, lets face it, they make their money off the DSLR market. How many people make their living shooting sports action? I am coming down from the DSLR, rangefinder, SLR world. It is an easy transition. And it has movie capability. If you are tired or carrying weighty and voluminous equipment you should intelligently consider E PL2. Also, you should consider the VF 2 viewfinder if coming from the DSLR world. One other plus, you can use ANY micro four thirds lens, regardless of make. 5 |

I bought this panning base to use for my video applications mostly with my Panasonic FZ1000 but also with my other slr cameras should I choose to use them for video. It is pretty thin in height, has a locking knob and is very smooth. A good investment to add to your tripod with most any type head. 5 |
