As I was waiting for delivery of my new Canon 35mm Macro lens, I discovered (at B&H) this small device made for a Nikon Macro lens called the ES-1 Slide Copier. I have over 1500 35mm color slides that are more than 18 years old. I was seeking a way to digitize these color slides and store them in the Lightroom image Library on my computer. I tried a Wolverine Film-to-Digitial Converter, but was unhappy with the results. The color output was not very good, and the output images were JPEG files. I contemplated purchasing an image scanner, but good, high quality ones were rather expensive and I would have no use for it after the slide conversion project was completed. Paying a professional slide digitizing service would have been VERY expensive. Using my new Canon 35mm Macro lens and a 49mm to 52mm step-up ring with the Nikon ES-1 and a (new) small portable LED light was the perfect solution for slightly over $100. (not counting the cost of the Canon lens and camera.) I am using a small Canon camera (SL1) mounted on a mini-tripod with the ES-1 attached to the macro lens. The camera is pre-focused using back-button focusing (same for all slides). The ES-1 is taped to the 35rmm lens hood so there is no slide rotation, and it is quick and easy to make digital images of the slides. The RAW files are then transferred to Lightroom on my computer using the SD card from my camera, and any color modifications can be done easily as a batch process in Lightroom. Each digitized image has a small black border on all sides, but this is easy to remove by cropping in Lightroom. 5 |

I've been surprised how often I reach for this camera. True, I have to live with 28mm (or 35mm or 50mm), no zoom, but just doesn't seem to get in the way. Image quality is very good. So small--but not too small. As handy as a phone camera, but with an APS-C sensor and output of 24 clean megapixels. I *love* the Full Press Snap feature because I can take quick shots and know all will be in focus from 2 feet to infinity. It took a little trial and error, then I settled on 1.5m for Snap Focus Distance and aperture priority f/16. For shutter speed I set a minimum of 1/250th. Of course, perfect for street shooting. 5 |

This an excellent camera for THE premier 35mm focal length shooting experience. I'm a long time Leica M shooter and hate big cameras. The RX1R II is what I've been waiting for the past several years and is now my main digital body for color use, which accompanies my Leica M3 and two prime lenses for analog monochrome use. What's to like? The RX1R II is very small and light (smaller than the Leica M series; it's more comparable to the Leica IIIf in both size and weight), stowable in a large jacket or sweater pocket, has amazing dynamic range, and the image quality is to die for -- oh, and did I mention that it's ber small? Talk about a wolf in sheep's clothing... What's not to like? Battery life is the only shortcoming for me to comment upon, although one battery will last all day for me if I quickly frame and shoot the image, then shut the camera off (no chimping or excess viewfinder use). As it is, I always carry plenty of spare batteries (they hardly weigh anything), so this is a non-issue for me. Some people will complain about the cost, but a camera of this caliber has never been inexpensive, so that doesn't bother me either. The auto-focus isn't something I rely upon, as I'm into manual focus primes -- your mileage may vary. If you're into the 35mm focal length, this is your baby -- just buy a couple of extra batteries and you're good to go. 5 |

... So you know it's good. A great deal on a small and lightweight lens that looks great. I love this and the 35mm prime in the same format! 5 |
