Small Diaphragm Condenser For Acoustic Guitar

2024-05-06 09:18:10

I have a project studio and record primarily acoustic instruments (Guitar, piano, various stringed instruments, hand percussion and vocals etc) Already own a set of Neumann KM 184's and an AKG C214 Large Diaphragm but have always had a fondness for the AKG small diaphragm sound ever since I started out years ago with a Vienna made C1000 (which I still have and love). I wanted another small diaphragm option and the 451's deliver big time. To be totally non technical I would describe the AKG's sound as open and airy especially on fingerstyle acoustic guitar. I tell people think of the old Windham Hill guitar sound. (yes I know they used Neumann's too). You will not go wrong with this mic if you play acoustic music.

Bought it and using it as an alternative large diaphragm condenser microphone for vocal and acoustic recording. Definitely a difference in character of sound and quality as compared to staple SM 58 Shure. Good with details and such. One slight gripe may be the limited peaking capacity. the -10dB pad is there but I personally don't believe that I should be using it most of the time. Loud recording applications may feel some limitations, however its value to performance ratio is a definite plus. Good well rounded function and use so far! If you're using it in the home studio make sure you have some isolation proofing done b/c it will pick up the echos. (and also thin window pane means you'll get car traffic noise picked up in this thing - very sensitive!)

Absolutely fantastic stereo mic holder. I’m using it for two Soyuz 013 small diaphragm condenser microphones. The hardware is all metal and extremely solid feeling. The distance and angle markings are easily legible and it is easy to adjust. The fittings feel very snug and secure. I’m Very happy with this and imo it’s so much nicer than anything I was able to find at a similar price point.

I bought this case to hold a small diaphragm condenser mic, and it fits perfectly. Plenty of protection and so affordable. I've already purchased the larger size and plan to get yet another of those.

This is the best value in low cost small diaphragm condenser microphones that I have found. Offering both Omni and Cardioid capsules, other microphones usually cost more than double the price for similar features. There is no switch to click to change the mic pattern; one simply has to unscrew the capsule and change it that way. I use it for recording acoustic guitar and find the sound to be perfect and I am very happy with my purchase. I'm so glad I got this mic as it is now discontinued....so get em' while they're still to be found. As a side note, this microphone is almost identical to the Superlux 241.

I use this product as a mic cable to patch two large diaphragm condenser mics to a small mixer and to run through a clear com system and it works great!! The Audio-technica Premium Microphone Cable is what I will be purchasing in the future when it comes to balanced XLR cables.

I researched for weeks looking for a small diaphragm condenser that would work well indoors as well as outdoors. Our primary use is for indoor dialogue (interviews, etc.). Wound up renting this Sanken mic for a day to test it out and immediately loved it. Bought it that day. The room we do most of our recordings in has some sound treatment and is fairly dead acoustically. The CS-M1 has a beautiful off-axis roll-off and tone and sounds very natural. Very little EQ needs to be done for our purposes. Has a little more top-end presence and no heavy bottom end. Great RF rejection and reportedly works well in high humidity settings. Super small and light. Very little handling noise. I love the supercardioid pattern which is perfect for our needs. Super quiet mic. Sounds beautiful. I will definitely be buying a second one when I get the $. No regrets.

bought this for a small home project studio. Very cheap for 2 condenser mics. A/B these mics against shure sm27 condenser. Both me and my kid liked the 2020 better, felt it was clearer and more realistic sounding on both voice and acoustic guitar. The 2021 sounded thinner with less bottom end. We'll use them on drums, guitar cabinets.
