Smart Car Accessory Position

Nice little accessory if you'd like to position something relatively light (such as a speed light) at various angles.

only had for 2 weeks, great for the car, now looking for accessory clips to do away with the velcro straps

This is the perfect accessory if you are looking to store your lens with the lens hood in position. This allowed me to put my lens in a ThinkTank Whip It Out with no rear lens cap, lens hood in position and the hoodie covering the front element. With that configuration, I am always ready for action before it happens!

It certainly is better than the original for the purpose of holding light or other accessory in a particular position.  I have the original and was using it to hold a studio strobe in an awkward place.  The locking lever of the original was too difficult to swing through its arc to the lock position where I needed it to be.  This is perfect!

This magic arm was purchased to replace a cheaper-made alternative arm that suffered from an inability to hold its position and securely mount an accessory to a camera. The Smallrig articulated magic arm employs a pair of ball joints and a large T-handle.The ball joints allow for a much wider range of positioning than the typical magic arm.This is a much better design that affords much greater flexibility in positioning the accessory to be held with the arm. The T-handle allows for the user to apply very positive leverage and clamp the arm down into position in a very secure manner.This ensures that the arm will not move and provides a very secure and stable mount for the accessory that the arm is holding. The 1/4-20 mount points on the ends of the arms that the user threads into the camera and accessory use triangular spinner controls that provide the user with the ability to exert a great deal of leverage to secure the arm. They are also drilled so that you can insert something like a hex wrench handle to increase the leverage exerted on the mount points for an even tighter, more secure attachment. This is an excellent, well-made product that I would buy again and would recommend to others in the market for such an accessory.

I bought the large TravelHood not for travel but to replace my Nikon 600E's carbon fibre OEM hood when shooting from my canoe/car where the 600+OEM hood can be cumbersome to work with since once the OEM hood is attached it's rather unforgiving. I'm hoping the TravelHood will be a little less restrictive in tight places. Although I've yet to actually use it I fully expect it will satisfy that purpose well enough. But more importantly what I found is that once the hood is attached you can actually slide it from the mounted position to the retracted position without unfastening it. The rubber gasket holds it in place when extended but it can be easily slid back to the fully retracted position without actually undoing the velcro fasteners. This is much more convenient than than unscrewing/screwing/unscrewing/screwing the OEM hood every time I'm in/out of the car or am pulling the hood in/out of the bag -- which for me is often. For that reason I plan on using the TravelHood all the time. Although it seems a tad expensive, it's well designed and, of course, it is a specialty item. Anyway, it's well worth it to me. RECOMMENDED as an effective replacement for the OEM hood, even if it doesn't look quite as professional. But if you're like me, functional always comes before looks!

I needed a lens case to transport my Canon 600mm lens when traveling in the car. The back pack I bought for hiking with the lens and attached camera body was too large. This case in the fully collapsed condition is a perfect fit for the lens with the hood in the reverse position. The case middle length condition is for the lens with the lens hood in the forward position. I don't recommend this position because loads on the lens hood could break the hood (a $700 item). The case in the fully extended condition is for the lens with extended hood and camera attached. Again, I don't recommend this. This can cause unnecessary loads on the lens to camera flange. The safest car transport is for the lens only with the hood in the reverse position. The build quality of the bag is very good, which helps justify the stiff price. But it is worth it to protect a mega bucks lens. I am pleased with this bag, highly recommended.

The product is absolutely what I was looking for. Easy to maneuver and position when in tight spaces especially a car. The camera (5D MK III) sits solid on the base plate and never a worry of it falling. You will end up using this more than you thought.

I use this RAM mount in my race car to view my position in class and relative splits to (or lap times of) the leader, the car ahead of me and car behind during endurance and sprint races using the Driver Monitor app. Secure mount, but still easy to insert and remove iPad. Good value.
