Sony Auto Audio

I own a Sony CX900 . It does not allow manual audio, but the auto mode works well. 5 |

Sony the one and only for a point and shoot. ZV-1 has an outstanding picture quality, very fast auto-focus, face detection works well. Ease of set up, audio quality is great, it's small and compact. Low light is awesome, the over all quality of video and audio for the price can not be beat and I'm a Canon and Panasonic man for videography. I started out using Sony Beta and 3/4 equipment back in the 80's. 5 |

Pros: - Sound is more refined - Bluetooth 5 gives me the 8-12’ of extra distance from devices that I needed. - Connecting to the TV and iPhone at the same time is very useful. Whichever device is sending audio gets auto-selected. Better auto-connection to devices when first turned on. - Noise Cancelling is ~20-30% better with a side to side comparison. - Can be listening to TV and get a phone call from 2nd device. CONS: - Battery seems to fade faster (~10-15% faster than XM3) but probably due to the 2 added mics, extra bluetooth signal, bluetooth strength, and deeper, fuller sound quality. - Even with the new superior Bluetooth 5, some TVs (ex. 2015 Samsung LED) have continual audio glitches. (Not the headphones fault but rather a Samsung problem that may occur on other TVs as well). Love the updated XM4s and can’t wait to see the XM5s improve on the battery. Perhaps offer a second upgrade padding for we people with big heads and big ears. 5 |

Back in the broadcast camera days, most all pro cameras came with decent handle-mounted mics. Things are different in the DSLR-type hybrid video camera world. The purpose of an on camera mic for me is to record ambient effects. However, on occasion I have actually shot location interviews, usually outdoors at big events. By moving in 3-4 feet from the subject and placing the person so the mic is facing away from the loudest background noise, it is possible to get useable audio. The Azden is, in my opinion, comparable to the similarly priced Rode camera mic. It has two features that influenced my purchase. One, it's a small size and does not stick out behind the camera too far. Some of the on camera mics are offset so far it's nearly impossible to use the EVF. Second, the mic has an auto switch that's nice. Not auto gain, but auto on off. You can set it in auto, plug it into your camera's audio input, and when the camera is turned on, the mic turns on. When the camera is turned off, the mic goes off. So you don't have to remember to turn it on when you get in a hurry. My GH5 has audio meters visible on the screen, so I always know if I'm getting audio even if my headphones are off. But if you don't have internal meters, this auto on/off feature is nice. The sound quality of this mic is not going to be as good as a shotgun mic costing hundreds more--that's what my boom mic is for. But for its intended use I think it's a great buy. 5 |

very interesting little booger! fast ship BH good job! tested it: mic screwed in just fine. attached mic clip, windscreen and wire grip for pack-to-beltline. put in aaa battery. inserted microsdhc card. fired it up. formatted card using menu choice. set to 48k/24bit audio, set lowcut on, set for dual record poly, to have a safety track at -6db. set to auto level with limiter on. recorded several chunks of audio at typical chest position. VERY useable, crisp. yelled. whispered. VERY useable. size is very small as reported. headphone output is plenty loud and adjustable. so far, highly effective tool at amazing price point. a pack of three would solve many simple shoot needs, with no wireless frequency issue in bigger cities. seems that you could rig the headphone output to line-in of a wireless transmitter as well, if conditions permit and warrant. the record switch is recessed and must be held for more than a second to stop, no accidental stop, also disables other controls. for tv commercial use, cool kit. to record audio while flying osmo or freefly, cool kit. possible at weddings: one black version on groom, one white version on minister, another at reading lecturn, one at string quartet and pow. me now doing that with lectro wireless but this sure would save time and simplify/speed setup. says 8 to 15 hour use on 1 aaa batt depending on batt type. the auto level would be quite effective for those uses based on my tests so far. fairly plastic build, but belt clip is TIGHT. plenty of cable on supplied mic. no noticeable hiss. slight cable/handling noise so tape/rig well on talent. to sum up: may get a couple more lol. note: 32gb max card, but thats a lotta time. 5 |

This provides much improved sound over all built in mics. I love how small and compact it is along with its auto on and off feature. It comes with a nice dead cat and two audio cables that should work with most devices. The tripod stand is very well made and when not in use for phone or video recording it sits on my desktop as my main audio input device....yes there are better purposed devices for that but it works well for my needs killing two birds with one stone. 5 |

I previously bought and returned the first generation of this product. I guess in the attempt to make it affordable, Zoom neglected to shield the mic from interference and it picked up the local radio. However, that issue has been fixed. I have the fixed version now and... I don't want to sound hyperbolic, but this is the best piece of audio gear I've ever used. For on-board audio there is literally nothing better. The auto-mix doesn't sound like an auto mix. Two examples: I shot a trumpeter at a horse race, who began talking to the people in the crowd after he played. You could hear every word. So that's perfect sounding trumpet, followed by perfect sounding dialogue, at a 15 ft distance. Second, I shot my 2 year old daughter's birthday. We have perfect audio of everyone singing happy birthday, and then a perfect audible pffff as she blows out the candles. And this is the audio it outputs to the camera, not even the 32 bit float it records internally. If you are documenting life as it is happening, this is the single best piece of gear you could get. 5 |
