Sony Camera App

I bought this 3 years ago, and I've been very happy with it the whole time. There are a couple things that Sony could improve upon though. First, there's some functions that you have to go through the menus to get to, instead of maybe at least having a favorites page. There are two custom buttons, but sometimes it would help to have a couple more, though, for that, you need to spend extra cash for a different model. The other thing, which is going to be on any Sony, is the phone/tablet app, and how it transfers photos. On Nikon, you can go on the app and pull up the images that are on the camera, then you pick what you want to transfer over. With Sony you have to pick from the camera and send it. It's easier to pick you images on the tablet with a touch screen. Both of these are not deal breakers though, and overall it does a very good job. 5 |

It's plastic, but that's good because it makes it light. Has all the functionality I need, and on the Sony is so much better then the in-camera app. I bought this over the name brand because of the price and have no regrets. 5 |

This is a (nearly) perfect phone for me because it has 3 things: 1) 3.5mm Headphone jack 2) 16mm, 24mm, and 60mm (12MP) equivalent lenses (w/ high-end Sony quality video and camera app! RAW, 4K, Advanced DSLR-like features, etc.) 3) USB-C (USB 3.1) with support for workstation docking (keyboard/video/mouse) Other niceties include: - Wireless Qi charging - IP56/IP68 dust/water resistance - Bright and colorful OLED screen - 120hz screen refresh rate (buttery smooth!) - Snapdragon 8 Gen1 SoC (8 cores) w/ 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage - 2 nanoSIM slots and 1 microSD card slot (supports upto 1TB) - Snappy biometric (fingerprint) unlock - 5G phone network (with 4G/LTE, 3G, and 2G) - WiFi6E network support (yes, it does the new 6Ghz band, too!) - 5000 mAh battery! - Dedicated shutter release button (with half-press focus lock, like a camera!) - WiFi texting via the standard Google Messages app, but... Unfortunately, there are 2 things about it that I was disappointed to discover: 1) No WiFi calling. From what I've read on the Internet, this is actually the fault of the carrier (Verizon, T-Mobile, et al.), but Sony seems to get the blame. It's not a deal breaker for me, but for some folks who make a lot of phone calls and don't have good cell tower coverage, this could really make life tough. 2) Thermal management really is mediocre. Or rather, this phone does get warm from time to time. While I don't play games on my phone, I have noticed that using the video recording and the phone app extensively will get this phone rather warm. Otherwise, it is a normal temperature. 5 |

I used this product for all my timelapse pictures, instead of the build in App from Sony RX10M3 camera. Another prospect is, that such Remote Switch for Sony RX10M3 camera's is not possible to buy this in Europe Netherlands. Only for Canon and Nikon but not for Sony Bridge Camera's. Regards R. I have a Sony alpha 7 series camera. In theory, it's possible to connect it to a smart phone using a built-in app, but in my experience, Sony's app is somewhere between cumbersome and impossible to set up. The Vello sets up very quickly -- plug it to into your camera's micro-USB, set the USB on the camera per the Vello instructions, go to Settings on your phone, and sign into the Vello's wifi signal. Apart from setting your camera's USB port, you don't have to screw around with the camera's menu at all, and the Vello gives you a full range of controls. The new CamRange2 will work with Sony and many others, but it's much more expensive. I don't think this unit is as robust as CamRangers, and it took a long time to charge the li-ion battery the first time, but it does what it promises. There are Vello apps that let you use Apple & Android smart phones/tablets and both Windows and Mac. (I use a Mac, and it's a 64-bit app, so it's compatible with OS Catalina.) 5 |

Currently doing Milky Way captures but that 30 wall and in bulb mode to have to look at a watch and the light goes off or having to watch your phone app and the screen goes dark 35 sec in. There was no remote shutter for a Sony and using the SEL1018 @12mm well a 600 rule gives you 50 500 41 and 450 37. ShutterBoss is the BOSS that takes you beyond the 30 wall for Sony Camera's. Yes there is an in camera app but there are times to do it yourself. Like I learned my lens would shoot 60 with the SEL1018 with no coma or star trails at ISO 1600 on my A7s, I played for 2 hrs. capturing the MW at different setting without have to use the camera app. I am going to buy 2 more just to have. 5 |
