This is a fantastic lens for portraiture, Wildlife, sports and even landscape in some instances. My tests have shown it to be sharp as a tack, and the sharpest Sony telephoto I own. I don’t however possess Nikon or Canon 70-200mm, and haven’t yet tested it with the available Sony teleconverters. PROS: Sharp, bright, doesn’t extend when zooming and maintains f2.8 minimum throughout its zoom range. Prodigious “everything”lens. CONS: Heavy! If you’re taking this to a game or on a wildlife shoot, bring your tripod or monopod.

We own a Nikon D5000 DSLR and use primarily for family / vacation photos (VR 18-55mm) and kids sports (VR 55-300mm zoom), but by comparison the Sony alpha 6000 with 16-50mm and 55-210mm lenses outperformed for these applications. The Sony was lighter and smaller for easier carrying. It had faster auto-focus (both lenses), and produced better low light and zoom pictures for sports action. The Nikon, even with the VR lenses produced a comparably blurry picture. The near field communication was easy to set up and within a minute of taking the shot it easily went through the iPhone to Facebook. The setup brochure outlined using a QC code to setup the NFC - but I couldn't find the QC code for the camera to get it to work. The free software for loading pictures to a PC was also easier and Sony offered the option of free online storage of images. Sony could improve battery life - the Nikon lasted longer. However, turning off the wireless network when not in use did improve battery life. Put simply, I'm sure the Nikon could take equivalent pictures, IF you're willing to commit the time to master all the settings and can set up shots. When trying to capture family/sports photos - point and shoot with good results is the goal and the Sony 6000 delivered.

Recently purchased sony sports walkman, one blue for the wife and one black for myself. Both of us are very pleased with items, easy to use and hardly noticeable when wearing on runs. Have not yet used for swim but that is in the works. Great item very happy with purchase and service.

I use the Sony 200-600mm for sports photography in daylight, but once the sun starts to set, or indoors, that lens struggles. Instead of spending $2500 on a 70-200 G Master, I opted for the much less expensive Tamron 70-180 f/2.8. No complaints at all. The lens is sharp (images after significant cropping look more than fine by me), and auto focus is super fast on a Sony A7 iii. I ended up shooting a polo match with the 70-180 once the sun started to set. After culling through everything, 70% of the keepers were from the 70-180 - which is remarkable given the distance to the action at the far end of the field. No complaints with this lens, which is light enough to hand hold; comparatively I mount my beloved 200-600 on a monopod. In bright daylight, the 200-600 is still my go to lens for sports - but in any other situation I shoot with the Tamron with no problems whatsoever. I would buy this lens again in a heartbeat and have no reason to not recommend it to someone shooting fast paced sports. I shoot 200mm on an APS-C, but that is effectively 300mm, so I can't speak to the loss of 20mm versus a 70-200.

This is a solid and versatile piece of equipment. I shoot sports on a Sony f55 with a variety of lenses using a Sachtler Video 18. This pairs very well. The feet will contour to uneven surfaces, and the adjustable leg height came in very handy on the very first shoot. The price is competitive and I could’ve bought something else. Easy to use, solidly built, and it has extra stuff like pronged and spiked feet all in a carry bag. So far anyway, I’m glad I chose this one.

I carry a Sony body with the Sigma 150-600mm sports lens in the Rugged Alpine 600 Lens Backpack every morning before sunrise into the Salt Marsh Nature Center. The back itself is light but sturdy and holds the body with the lens balanced perfectly. the thick padded shoulder and hip harness secures the backpack to your torso. No lower back pain with this bag. plenty of storage pockets too.
