As an audiophile and someone who owns a large range of headphones, I have to say the MDR-MV1 Open-Back is a fantastic headphone. Period. However, make no mistake, this is a Sony headphone with a Sony Sound. Slightly V shaped but don't let that turn you off. I really do mean slightly. It has a little bass lift but nothing that interferes with the mid's or treble. This is one of the most balanced headphones in my collection. Everything has it's place and comes shining through. Bass - So well balanced. Actually, to these ears darn near perfect. So well balanced and not muddy at all. Mids - Everything where it should be. The vocals sit dead center (if mixed that way) and again, has it's own place in the soundstage. Treble - Nothing spiky in the sound at all. Weight - I forget I am wearing them. They are so light, when I picked-up the box I was really surprised at the weight. For a second I thought they forgot to put the headphones in. No joke. Soundstage - Nothing that is going to stop the planet but well staged and defined. My Audeze has a larger one but those headphones were twice the price. Overall, very pleased. Does not sound crowed at all. Worth it: Up to you. For me, yes. I am willing to bet Sony has a hit on their hands. I love these headphones. They have been plugged into my DAC/AMP since I got them.

This is Sony's first professional headphone in years and they've done it again the sound quality is exceptional the 360° Sony spatial sound is incredible and if you play Dolby Atmos music it gives you virtual Dolby Atmos sound again outstanding headphones for that price

Upgraded from basic headphones that were bleeding sound to these Sony Headphone. They are comfortable and sound great. They fold nicely and come with a pouch.

This headphone are a giant step up from my Sony MDR-7506's in terms of sound. I used the Sony's mainly for tracking/editing voice over and I will probably still use them for that. The Shure's are tonally quite different. The Sony's emphasize mids to an unnatural degree but make them great for finding and revealing mistakes in audio. I am not sure I would use the Shure's for reference as they do have a boost in the upper bass area away from the Harmon Target. Otherwise they are spot on and sound great with most music. There have been a few occasions where this bass boost can muddy up some songs but this is fairly rare with what I listen to. At first they clamped my head pretty tight but with some use they are becoming very comfortable. For a closed back design I think these are one of the best options for price/sound quality. Satisfied!

Considering the excellent price I give the Senal SMH-100 headphone a 5 star rating. Excellent price/performance! It does not include (optional) the nice carry bag that comes with the similar Sony MDR-V6. B&H did throw in no charge as a combo special a pair of the super nice sheepskin earpads. These phones have very defined low distortion sound and extended FR with a slight mid range emphasis and slight bass emphasis. (I prefer this in a headphone, no laid back, warm sound here). This headphone is very well built, extra comfortable, folds up into a very compact form when not in use if desired, and comes with two detachable cords, one coiled and one short straight cord, a very nice feature. These are quite similar in price/performance to the also excellent Sony MDR-V6. So far (several weeks testing) I might give it an ever so slight edge over the Sony MDR-V6 which I have owned 4 pair over 20+ years. Time will tell if the Senal continues the excellent performance, build and sound wise. Superb service from B&H as always! Highly recommended.

Hook this up to a Roland digital piano. The coiled cable is very useful. I don't have to take it off if I switch piano pieces. I noticed the difference in sound from the old Sony headphone I used before. Senal sound is even, does not hear lots of bass. At first I said that I missed my Sony, but then I started to get the hang of it. I began to notice that I am hearing somewhat close to the sound that the piano actually is producing. Compared this again with Beats, that headphone has too much bass - does not sound natural to me. This Senal headphone is comfortable and construction seems solid. My son uses this when he creates his own music. Listened Pandora on a Mac - I like the sound and no complaints there. I hear all the instrument used in the accompaniment. For the price, you can never go wrong. I will try the SMH-1000 once it goes on sale. I will give it 5 stars.

By far the xm3 is the best headphone I had. It reproduces truly beautiful sounds. It's a must have from Sony!
