The Sony MDR-7506 Headphones are a classic option for monitoring sound recording and feel great on.

I connect these headphones into a Sony Playstation Vita and listen to songs using the Sony Music Unlimited application. This gives me adequate emphasis of bass to help me determine the notes which are sometimes difficult to hear and decipher. When wanting to play along to the music simultaneously using either guitar or bass, I simply plug MDR-7506 through the headphone port on subwoofer/amp combo or DI box. The Playstation Vita is then connected to auxillary port using appropriate auxillary cable. I then have the option of muting the output to the internal speaker depending on whether or not I want my neighbors to hear. MDR-7506 also come with a pouch to carry headphones and cable in. The earpads are soft which make extended listening appropriate. Though, I am fearful these pads may breakdown or tear at a faster rate or higher percentage. This is ok since the earpads themselves can be replaced without buying a complete new product. Another concern is the thin wire connection run independently to the left and right speakers. They could become caught within the sliding adjustment piece that is used to accomodate different head sizes. No worry just something to be aware and cautious of in advance. Overall, the sound is excellent with great clarity and bass. The price was just right for my budget. I wanted to splurge and spend more on this component of my system. However, after testing several other higher priced models, I simply could not justify passing up the quality this unit provided. Legitimacy confirmed!

This is one of the best headphones I have ever had the pleasure of owning. The refined sound signature is something that really agrees with my listening preference, practically no listening fatigue with them at all. At the same time, it's very involving with a wide and tall soundstage, rich textural mids and vocals and great bass and sub-bass extension, when called for. Perfect for any music genre really. The design and comfort is absolutely top notch as well. Note, if you prefer headphones with very strong highs/treble, these are not for you. The treble is accurate, yet laid back compared to other headphones which seem to need to shoot the treble in to your ears in the guise of being 'high resolution'. Sony really stepped it up in all respects with their Z1R headphones. They're made in an in-house artisan department within Sony as well, not mass produced. I use these earpads with rather old Sony MDR-V6 headphones. I have found them to be very comfortable.

Sony MDR-7506 Headphones are one of the most prestigious headphones for audio production for a reason. Highs, mids, and lows are crystal clear and I'm able to wear these for hours without the ear pain. Could not recommend these headphones enough.

This headphone are a giant step up from my Sony MDR-7506's in terms of sound. I used the Sony's mainly for tracking/editing voice over and I will probably still use them for that. The Shure's are tonally quite different. The Sony's emphasize mids to an unnatural degree but make them great for finding and revealing mistakes in audio. I am not sure I would use the Shure's for reference as they do have a boost in the upper bass area away from the Harmon Target. Otherwise they are spot on and sound great with most music. There have been a few occasions where this bass boost can muddy up some songs but this is fairly rare with what I listen to. At first they clamped my head pretty tight but with some use they are becoming very comfortable. For a closed back design I think these are one of the best options for price/sound quality. Satisfied!

I bought TWO Sony MDR-ZX110AP Extra Bass Smartphone Headsets (Black): one for me, one for another family member. They don't seem particularly stout in terms of build quality, but I wouldn't call them flimsy, either. We don't abuse our belongings so I have no doubt these will last us a long time. For the price point, the build quality is what I'd expect...but the sound quality FAR exceeds my expectations from the highs all the way down to the lowest lows. Can't go wrong with these.

I needed to replace the ear pads on my Sony MDR-7506 headphones - this for the second time... I use them to monitor audio levels during production. The originals and previous replacements wore out quickly, leaving flakey black plastic bits all over my head, face and ears. NOT acceptable. I am trusting that Sheepskin leather will hold up much better.
