Sony Mini Underwater Camera

I got this lens to shoot underwater video and stills with my Sony A6500 in an Ikelite DL/M200 housing. Sunday morning was my first dive with it. To say that it didn't disappoint would be a gross understatement! This lens is razor sharp, with very fast autofocus. I found that with other lenses on this camera, I had to set the autofocus speed to responsive, which is much faster than Standard. With this lens, I have to dial that back down, as the AF responds a bit too quickly now for my taste! Even with the A6500's 1.5x crop factor, giving this lens the equivalent angle of view as that of a 24mm lens on a full frame camera, this lens's ability to focus at very close distances makes it an excellent lens for underwater work for all but the smallest of subjects. The image I've attached is a saved frame from 4K video I shot Sunday morning. The subject is a curious Sheepshead that came in for a very close up look at my camera! I have several Sigma lenses for Canon: the 24-105 Art and 150-600 Sports, and this very value-priced 16mm prime for the Sony E mount continues that fine tradition of quality glass. Good job, Sigma!

I bought this housing because I wanted to use a good compact Sony camera to capture underwater wildlife. I was frustrated with the GoPro and unimpressive still photos. The housing allows use of all buttons on the camera and functions that allow quality pictures underwater. I have included pictures from my first time use in Kona Hawaii. Make your own conclusions from my experience. I highly recommend this housing.

I had been using a Sony mini tape cassette camera for the past 20 years. The picture quality of this new Sony Camcorder is unbelievable . Shot some picture of a tennis match and the recording was great. You could almost read the printing on the tennis balls in the ball rack at the net post. Haven't had a lot of time to learn all the features, which this camera offers. One thing that I experienced the fact that I could see my reflection in the video screen when shooting picture and that made scanning difficult. I believe that was related to the position of the sun relative to my shooting position. Lots of learning to do, but real excited about the clarity of the pictures.
