I used to wear my Sony Pro Headphones all the time... but these are so much more comfortable and easier to work with while editing in my home studio.

I already own the Sony equivalent of these headphones to monitor on set video production but two things helped me decide to purchase these particular headphones: fabulous price and the ability to swap out the connector cord. The Sony headphones had a coiled cord way too long and it constantly got in my way. These phones come with a supplementary cord that is shorter and not coiled. The sound they produce are fine for monitoring on set live video.

Reference has breathed new life into my Sony MDR-V6's which have been faithfully serving me for more than 10 years. The only qualm I've had with the Sony's are an apparent sibilance, even if it can be pleasant at times. Reference improves that problem (including an issue with bass) to flatten the response. This has helped immensely with mixing, but has also made general listening more enjoyable and less fatiguing. SONARWORKS has reviewed lots of headphones and rated them based on their before and after calibration performance, so if you're on the market for new headphones, that might be a good starting point for reference. They also offer an additional service for individual calibration which requires sending your headphones in so they can produce a personal profile for your headphones, as opposed to using the general profiles included with the software (you can also purchase a new pre-calibrated pair from them). That's all of course if you're looking for some kind of edge and really find yourself doing a great deal of work on headphones; it could certainly be worth the extra cost particularly for mastering headphones. Pairing this software with something like CanOpener (to simulate monitor crossfeed) will put you pretty close to a solid monitor mixing environment, so this is incredible software particularly for compact or mobile headphone-centric setups, or as a compliment to a studio setup that utilizes headphones in any critical way. Looking forward to using it with new headphones when the time comes. Highly recommended. Be sure to check the full headphone compatibility list to be sure they at least have a general profile for your particular model.

As a audiophile I have other headphones I prefer if I want to simply listen to music however as a pro AV tech, this Sony MDR-7506 is the ONLY headphones I want when doing any kind of pro use from checking a mic line in a live mixing situation to mixing audio for video, this is my choice headphone. The Sony sound is flat, not a lot of bass but is exactly whats needed when mixing as you want flat. The isolation is good when blocking outside sounds and I find the Sony will hold up to pro use, except the ear pads those are replaceable, I would suggest go ahead and order the extra ear pads as you will need them. I have been using my original set of Sony MDR-7506 at least 12 years of pro work and are simply fantastic! Never a short or any problems but I am on my 4th or 5th set of ear pads as in a pro situation I am very hard on these phones. You may find a better sounding headphone but when mixing or using in the field for anything pro AV, this is the headphones to buy!

The two items in this kit that make it fantastic are: 1. The bracket that holds the phone providing a tripod mount for the phone, which is a well-made all-metal bracket, and keeps the phone secure while allowing the phone to be removed easily from the bracket. This is great by itself without the monitor if you just want to mount your phone to a tripod. 2. The monitor which magnetically adheres to the bracket. The image looks great and is sized just right (not too big to cover the lenses but not too small to be useless). But, and this is why I love Sony's gear, one of the best features is when using this with a microphone, which slides into the cold shoe on the bracket, a wire is connected from an analog output jack on a mic to the analog input mic jack on the monitor. While using the rig in a vlogging/selfie mode, looking at the monitor, this works perfectly, however turning off the monitor still maintains a little bit of power to the monitor to power the mic and thus allows you to pivot the camera around and use the mic through regular forward-facing use (non-selfie). This is awesome when you want to quickly switch between selfie and normal recording quickly. I wished it came with its own storage pouch but those are cheap and easy to find. I would imagine, when Sony provides the Video Pro app to other Xperia models, this product should work with them also. Right now, it works with Photo Pro and Video Pro but not Cinema Pro. It would be nice for Sony to update the Cinema Pro app to support this and their mini-tripod vlogging grip at least for the use of the microphone and being able to control the Cinema Pro from the grip. All-in-all, I am really happy with this purchase. It is a little pricey, but then again you could afford the PRO-I, right?

This was recommended by B&H when I picked up an on-camera video monitor for a pro rig Sony video system. The arm articulates completely, is easy to lock into position with one twist, and seems very secure, so far.
