Sony Semi Open Headphones

These semi-open headphones are about the best for my money.  I use them for video editing when monitors are not available.

These headphones showed me there is indeed, a difference between closed back headphones and open back headphones. These , I think, are listed as semi-open back. I really like the sound. Arrived quickly and was well packaged.

I am still just a hobbyist, but it is not uncommon for me to use these several hours per night editing video. I bought these to replace a pair of JVC HA-RX700 headphones. I am not an audiophile by any means, but the sound quality is very good, and as far as I can tell comparable to the JVCs. At the same source volume level, the sound is noticeably softer on the AKGs, but that may just be because of the semi-open design. It is not an issue to just raise the source volume a bit to make up the volume difference, though. The main 3 reasons I replaced my JVCs were 1) the JVCs are pretty huge, 2) I liked the detachable cord feature on the AKGs (just the day before I did a job where I needed to monitor audio while shooting, and there were a couple times when it sure would have been handy to be able to disconnect myself from everything on the headphone side of the cable . . .), and 3) the AKGs were on sale for half their normal price. The AKGs are definitely lighter, more subtle to wear in public, and I do like the detachable cord feature. I'm not sure if the semi-open design (which will make it easier for people nearby to hear what you are hearing through the headphones) would be a problem for some people, but I think it will be fine for my purposes. Overall a very nice set of headphones, and I would recommend them.

These are my first open ear headphones. No more earbuds for me!

I got 2 Sonos Play 5 one in the living and one in the family room. Walls between the two rooms are semi open. with Sonos Sub paired with Sonos Play 5 in the Living Room. I'm just amazed with clarity of the the Play 5. They fill both rooms with awesome sound. I cranked the volume to the max and I'm surprise to hear zero distortion. Also the Sonos Sub delivers deep and smooth bass. I'm sure Sonos will stay competitive in the wireless audio industry. Excellent job Sonos. I give you 5 star rating.

The AKG K240 Studio Pro Semi-Open Stereo Headphones continue to be widely used in recording studios because of quality build, long lasting performance without degradation of sound quality, detailed sound without an overbearing amount of mid highs, light weight for comfortable long wear time, super comfortable soft, wide headband and large ear pads that won't hurt your ears, a semi open design that allows ambient sound without distraction, and an extra long wire that is uncurled so it doesn't put strain on any audio jacks or connections.

Super deal! Big semi-hard zip-open case with padded dividers, good wheels, okay handle. Wouldn't put it on a plane as luggage, but it's light weight and terrific for rolling light gear around out of studio.

I use the product in the Avid Lab to do editing. The K240 Studio Professional Semi-Open Stereo Headphones are comfortable and the sound is crisp and clear.

Found the What HiFI? review about 6 months ago. Had been using the AKG K67 (on ear, good sound, bad build), Y50 (on ear, good sound, sturdy build), and the K240 Studio (semi-open, great sound). With persistent searching, was able to acquire the three above and the K92 for less than $200 total over a one year period. Since I prefer a flatter response for home listening, the K92 complements my K240 when I want to toggle between closed and semi-open, respectively. A little muddled upon first use, but loosened up (or I just got use to it) after about 12 hours of burn-in; after that, similar in sound but with a slightly narrower sound stage. Sufficient to satisfy my foray in to newer, higher fidelity after using the Sennheiser HD 414SL's since the '80s. Not seeing a need to jump to any $200+ headsets for the time being.

I was insecure about going semi-open or closed. I like to listen the sound quality over high volume and bass! Perfect fit!! worth 10 times what I paid for these.
