Sony Studio Reference Oled Monitor

I use this monitor to reference live feed from the video switcher in my school news studio.  The monitor is bright, crisp, and has onboard tools that are very helpful.  The histogram allows me to dial in iris settings for each camera on the fly.  The metal exterior is pretty darn nice for a sub $500 monitor.  Lilliput provides nice added goodies such as a camera adapter, and sunshade.  The monitor is boxed very nicely.... reminiscent of unboxing an Apple product.  While some may complain that it is only 500 brightness, this is more that sufficient for studio use.  I am buying more shortly to provide studio staff additional live views.

I was looking for a compact stereo speaker/subwoofer combination as a reference/mixdown monitor for my project studio. The Cyber Acoustics CA-3908 perfectly fills the bill! Easy setup with a unique control pod that takes little space - headphone and aux jacks on the pod are a nice touch. The sound is AMAZING - brilliant highs, balanced mid-frequencies, and a VERY responsive sub-woofer make for an outstanding listening experience! For desktop and laptop computers, this is a no-brainer; in fact, if you watch movies on your computer, this system will make soundtracks REALLY come to life! An excellent choice for my studio - thanks, B&H! HIGHLY recommended!!

Reference has breathed new life into my Sony MDR-V6's which have been faithfully serving me for more than 10 years. The only qualm I've had with the Sony's are an apparent sibilance, even if it can be pleasant at times. Reference improves that problem (including an issue with bass) to flatten the response. This has helped immensely with mixing, but has also made general listening more enjoyable and less fatiguing. SONARWORKS has reviewed lots of headphones and rated them based on their before and after calibration performance, so if you're on the market for new headphones, that might be a good starting point for reference. They also offer an additional service for individual calibration which requires sending your headphones in so they can produce a personal profile for your headphones, as opposed to using the general profiles included with the software (you can also purchase a new pre-calibrated pair from them). That's all of course if you're looking for some kind of edge and really find yourself doing a great deal of work on headphones; it could certainly be worth the extra cost particularly for mastering headphones. Pairing this software with something like CanOpener (to simulate monitor crossfeed) will put you pretty close to a solid monitor mixing environment, so this is incredible software particularly for compact or mobile headphone-centric setups, or as a compliment to a studio setup that utilizes headphones in any critical way. Looking forward to using it with new headphones when the time comes. Highly recommended. Be sure to check the full headphone compatibility list to be sure they at least have a general profile for your particular model.

Used with a Sony OLED 77 in. It allows the huge screen, which I use as a computer monitor, to float over my desk, in any position. I can turn it and walk behind it to make connections. I attached a few straps to the mount on the back of the TV to move it without touching the TV. The only complaint is that, as the mount is covered in baked enamel, it is slippery and some adjustments, the horizontal level and the tilt angle may not hold steady. I used some blue Loctite to increase friction. Again, very sturdy and very long and very flexible... a gem.

This is a excellent OLED Field monitor and an outstanding HD and 4K recorder. The MultiStream option makes it ideal for multicamera shoots and excellent tool to have on field productions when you are matching cameras. I have three of these and am planning on purchasing 5 more. I use the Odyssey 7Q with the following cameras: Sony FS700, Sony PMW F-3, Canon 1DC, Panasonic GH4. I have been able to mix and match cameras on the odyssey with very few issues. The customer service support is one of the best in the industry. They are very professional and patient. I have had to call for various reasons and they have always been very responsive and helpful. I even had to return a unit that was giving me problems and they repaired and return it to me promptly without any hassles. This is a great investment and I strongly recommend it.

Hooked upon to a new 42 Sony OLED, it adds a greater dynamic range to the output of the monitor's speakers for the small room it's being used in. Solid cost/benefit ratio.

Monitor clarity is excellent. Contrast for text is excellent (oled cant be beat for contrast). Color accuracy is spot on (oled). Weight / portability is great (1.5lbs) although you will want to get a small case for it (stiff backing to give support). (better to have this higher resolution (4k) compared to 'lower resolution' but 'larger monitor'... for getting work done the higher resolution is much better than a bigger 1080p monitor... considering the text contrast is excellent the text can be smaller). The perfect monitor would be a 18 portable oled... but that does not seem to exist yet.
