I thoroughly enjoy this microphones' ability to capture the audio spectrum of my Taylor 414 guitar. The guitars' stock electronics in no way reproduce the sound of this guitar as authentically as will the MXL 990. I know there are more expensive mics but to supersede its' quality of reproduction within the budget of a home studio is nowhere to be found. Thank you AB 5 |

I am a Bass Player. I like to hook up my bass to my computer for recording or practicing. The audio out of my Apple iMac always had problems handling the low frequencies of a bass guitar through headphones. Through the analog headphone port of my iMac, I would always have distortion, compression and muddy low frequency response. The AudioEngine D1 DAC solved the problem. At first, I would stream audio back through the USB port. Then, I bought myself an optical cable that has a 3.5mm mini-toslink one end and a full size toslink on the other. I hooked up the mini-toslink end to the headphone out of my iMac which is designed to support both 3.5mm analog audio or 3.5mm optical audio. Then, I played an HD version of Creams's N.S.U. song at 24-bit 192KHz resolution. Suddenly, I heard magical things I had never heard before. I can actually hear very clearly how the recording engineer mixed the song. For example, for that particular song, Eric Clapton's voice is slightly panned right in the stereo image while Jack Bruce's voice is panned slightly left. The bass is panned pretty hard on the right side. The guitar is panned on the left side and the drum is right down the middle. Really Cool! Also, there is some spatial dimension to the recording. You hear the room. Highly recommended. 5 |

Dracast's LED1000 Plus Daylight is the best LED light I've ever tested because its so color accurate and build solidly. As a cinematographer I know light and light sources. Its important to understand that LEDs aren't a full spectrum light source like sunlight. And they can have difficulty reproducing certain key wavelengths of light, leaving gaps in the visible spectrum. In fact, most LEDs today do a poor job of reproducing red, which is important for good skin tone. The common CRI measurement fails to tell the whole picture because it assumes a full spectrum source. CRI averages readings from only 8 samples, that is R1-R8. However, the colors which are most important for skin tones, R9, R13, and R15, are omitted in the calculation. Using a Sekonic C-700 Spectrometer, I was able to meter the light from 5' at 100%. The display temp of 5600K metered at 5787K, which is acceptable. The measured output was 2750 lux and there was zero indication of a green or magenta color shift (CCi). Most notable was the CRI rating (Ra) of 96.2, and R9=94.6, R13=97.3, and R15=94.1. Those are outstanding numbers for an LED panel and the best Ive seen yet. The beam spread appears to be about 45 and is controllable with the barn doors or grid. Its very intense and youll want to shoot this through diffusion or bounce it when lighting people but the package is easy to handle and very portable. The panels are built solidly with a nice blue aluminum frame, sturdy yoke, a useful display for color temp and intensity, xlr power, assignable dmx, and interchangeable battery plate. This panel cant be beat at any price and is perfect if you need a lightweight, battery-powered light source for lighting people. 5 |
