The A5+ are actually my 3rd purchase of Audioengine speakers. I previously owned 2 pairs of the A2's. The A5+ is the update to the A5. It features a few extras missing on the A5 including a remote control with an energy saving mode, and heat fins on the rear. I also added the S8 subwoofer for a 2.1 system connected to my TV. The cost was under $600 for the setup. Before commenting on the sound, I need to provide you with some background. I have been a high end audio junkie since the late 60's owning numerous speakers including Merlin, Magnepan, Apogee, Role Audio, Totem, Accoustat, TDL, etc... so you can say that I am not the typical consumer wowed by the name of Bose etc... Anyway, on to the sound. I first set up the speakers without the subwoofer hooking up the RCA leads to the A5+ main speaker and the mini plug to the Television output. The input for the television was a Fios cable box and Panasonic Blu Ray player both using HDMI. My first impression of the sound was extremely favorable. The bass from the speakers sounded as if I already had a sub attached and voices and instruments seemed to emanate from a very clean clear background. I then attached the S8 and after some careful adjustments I could barely notice the effects. That is until a sub 50Hz sound was produced by the source. Then it revealed itself with some nice tuneful polite bass. No boom at all. It just stepped to the plate whenever needed, never calling attention to itself unless absolutely necessary. In summary, for the price, these speakers are a steal. If I were a starving college student unable to afford the good stuff. Buy these speakers! Even if you have the money to buy something more expensive. Save your money and try these. They are that good. 5 |

These speakers have good highs and also midrange, the bass could be a little better...but with my subwoofer it doesn't matter much. The appearance of the speaker are very nice having the piano gloss look....looks like very exspensive speakers, for the money you can't beat these speakers! 5 |

I will be honest I truly have no idea how this surround sound is supposed to sound to me. This is my first surround sound system I have ever owned and so I have nothing to compare it to. I do have to say I dont know how I feel about the center channel out cable that makes the voices come out of the tv speakers so it sounds more directly in front of me. I kind of feel like that ruins the experience just a tad bit because I am connecting a low grade speaker to a top grade system and almost drowns out the quality of sound coming from the two front surround sound speakers mounted on the wall. But I will play around with it and see what I like better. As far as the subwoofer goes it is great truly is immersive vibration but if there was a way to connect a 1000W RMS or higher subwoofer (something comparable like a nightshade v5 2500W sundown audio subwoofer for a car) to this system I would highly recommend adding a new subwoofer to the Sony line up that is twice as powerful as this one or give me the ability to add a second subwoofer to the system. I can say I have never sat in my living room and watched an action movie and heard bullets zing past my head before. But with this surround sound that is exactly how it sounds and I can say with all honesty it is really an amazing and cool experience to have as my first one. Hope this helps with future bug fixes and tech updates. Please let me know if you add a new more powerful subwoofer or make it so I can add a second one to the system. Thank you! 5 |

The B&H shopping experience was top notch as usual. I had done a ton of research before deciding upon Audioengine A2+ speakers. The research seems to have paid off. I was pleasantly surprised at how awesome the speakers sound right out of the box. Some of the reviews I had read indicated a subwoofer is required to really bring out the speakers. I decided to listen to them for a few days without a subwoofer before adding one to judge for myself. While I found the bass a little flat, I felt that as computer desk speakers, they sounded great. I later added an 8 subwoofer and Holy Cow did that ever make a difference! Now the speakers sparkle accompanied by deep rich bass. I love listening to music at my desk and the Audioengine A2+ speakers (with subwoofer) makes that experience way more pleasurable. I highly recommend the speakers. 5 |

I am a long time audiophile and musician who just purchased my first subwoofer. I realized my current bookshelf speakers (which I love dearly) weren't capable of reproducing the low end that is present in the original recordings. I use this subwoofer for music listening only. I chose this subwoofer due to online reviews and because the onboard amplifier in the sub (115 watts) most closely matches the 60 watt per channel RMS output of my integrated amp. Because this subwoofer is closely matched to the power of my receiver, when I increase the overall volume, both the subwoofer and my main speakers increase fairly evenly (don't have to readjust settings every time the volume is increased). Very. very, very pleased with this purchase! The low end is there, it is tight (not boomy) and very musical. I listen to all types of music and this subwoofer adds a balance to all music I listen to. Bottom line, I'm a critical listener (always assessing how the sound could be better) and I am very, very pleased with my purchase! I think you will be also. 5 |

The HD3 speakers and subwoofer deliver all that I hoped for. Three different set-up connections are possible. Of these, the USB audio connection works best for me. I placed all three speakers on top of my u-shaped desk configuration. I recommend placing the subwoofer on your desk and not on the floor--it's just a 6 subwoofer and it performs best up on top and not below your desk. Good system! 5 |

I have these speakers, coupled to 800's surrounds, a pro center 2000 center, and a super cube subwoofer. These speakers, as my reveiw of the center says, are truly rock solid, with zero discernible distortion. You would have to raise the volume to ludicrous levels in order to make these things tremble. They are very musical, and reproduce notes with great realism and ease. I would seriously suggest pairing them to a super cube subwoofer, which is a thing of beauty itself. There is a scene in one of the Spiderman films where "Doc Oc" initiates a fusion, and the sound, which was at reasonable mid volume, literally made me jump, really conveyed the power of the reaction. Love these monitors, make sure you couple them to a quality receiver, using higher gauge speaker wire. 5 |
