At the time of purchase, the standalone mic and the mobile recording kit were the same price, so choosing the kit was a no-brainer. The mic is VERY directional, so you should treat it like a shotgun mic and make sure it’s pointed straight at what you want to pick up. It’s a great product otherwise, and does a very good job considering how small it is. 5 |

I bought this primarily to use as an off-camera microphone for my D7000. I have been using it for that as well as for standalone audio recording and the audio is great. Most of my testing so far has been recording at church services and a wedding. It runs on AA batteries, so it is easy to power on the go. It has quite a few options for audiophiles that I have not delved into such as locut filters and such. There are also features for musicians such as a metronome and audio tuner. It will support up to a 32GB SD card, so you can do quite a bit of recording if you need to. Another feature I found is that it will also act as a USB microphone for your computer. I hooked it up to my Linux workstation and set it to Audio I/O mode and PulseAudio picked it right up as a mic to use. The only cons I can come up with after working with it for a couple weeks are that 1. The accessory kit is separate, and 2. Sometimes it is TOO sensitive (which basically means you need to learn to place it correctly and set the audio recording pattern and levels properly for your situation). 5 |
