Bought this to replace the optical drive with the stock 500GB drive that came with my 2012 macbook pro, stuck a 240G sandisk SSD in the original hard drive bay. works like it should only problem i had was a stripped one of the tiny screws getting the optical drive out, this has nothing to do with the product but should be know those little screws can be damaged easy so take your time!

Probably you won't use you Optical Drive anymore, you're in 2012 so just get this and add a second drive. It's amazing to buy this if you have an SSD and to keep you HDD. I use it in my Macbook Pro and rocks.

I purchased this external hard drive so i could back up my 2012 MacBook Pro with time machine. I was able to format the drive for the time machine and had absolutely no issues doing it. I was also able to partition it so it can also be used as a regular drive so i can store photos and videos. Out of the box, the device was flawless and powered up immediately when i plugged it in with USB. No power adapter necessary. When it's running when its recording or reading, its silent and there are no vibrations or rattling noises. Considering the 4TB storage capacity and the fact it's not SSD, this is quite a small device. I've been using Western Digital for over a decade and have never had any issues. In my opinion, they are the best devices and i would recommend them to anyone. They are the best bang for the buck!

Replaces. 2012 mini with dying hard drive . Have had computers since 1983 and needs change. With 6 Apple devices, the ability to make new mini a server turned out to be big plus. Had considered an iMac but with good accessories in the larder this was a logical choice. Don’t do games but lots of streaming. Very happy. Will upgrade monitor for a HD LG . SSD Is Very fast. A big WOW for upgraded features. Had a warranty issue which B&H dealt with in a “New York Minute “

I installed this SSD in a mid-2012 Macbook Pro 13" version 9,2 model. Wow! I became a big fan of SSD drives with my new iMac and the MacBook was looking so pokey in comparison. Now my MacBook has new life, amazingly faster performance. It's the best speed upgrade I have ever experienced with a product. I'm running High Sierra on this book with no glitches. Has 16 gb ram. I highly recommend this especially because new Macbooks are so pricey and Apple has taken away ports I use in the new models, such as Ethernet, DVD drive, Firewire. It's a new machine again. Just be aware you will want to partition the drive with the new Apple APFS as it will not work with GUID. I then migrated my software with Apple migration assistant with only minor glitches to some software icons. Those I fixed by booting in safe mode, then back to normal mode.

Purchased my first Buffalo as a Raid 1 storage drive for my photography around 2012. Had good luck with THAT one, so I decided on getting a 6 TB version of the same external drive set up on Raid1, as my older drive was a 4TB raid1 device giving me a net of 2TB of storage, and it was now FULL! So I've activated this new 6TB drive also on Raid 1, which gives me 3TB of new redundant and safe storage capability. I trust the reliability of these external drives!!
