I have 4 of these. They took the place of random storage in plastic bags and the bottom of drawers. I like them because they are waterproof and secure, yet easy to open without breaking a fingernail, unlike some other competitors. Not expensive and highly recommended.

These are just perfect for me for moving slides from trays to a much more compact yet searchable storage that can go in either file drawers or binders.

I bought the Synology DS1621+ as a replacement for another vendor's mass storage device that was several years old and had run out of space. I could not be more pleased with the Synology device and operating system/user interface. While the other vendor's user interface hid much of the underlying complexity of setting up RAID, volumes, etc. (ostensibly to make it user-friendly), Synology allows you to set up your device using their recommended settings or yours if you know more about setting up storage devices and what you are ultimately trying to achieve. In addition, since the Synology device actually runs an operating system, there are a number of applications that you can additionally run on the device to provide additional services (such as face recognition and photo categorization). For those that are looking for a rock solid NAS device for storing photos or any other types of files, I highly recommend this device. For context, I am using this for storing about a million photos and currently have about 32TB of storage installed in it.

I was considering a SSD, but at less than $200 for 5 TB this is really good value. It is a Seagate drive. Great interface and the perfect storage for Time Machine. It is the size of a cigarette pack. Included cables are USB C to USB C and USB C to USB A. The data rate for a USB A connection is very low but who cares for a backup? It is USB and it operates off your computer's power. It would also would be great for portable video storage in the field as it is ruggedized.

Works great for backing up computers for offsite storage. The USB-C interface is very convenient. Nice color, too.
