Studio Monitor Frequency Test

I just recently took this out the airshow to give it a test run and other than it being a little shorter than I would have liked (not the lenses fault) it performed very well on my D700. You can see for yourself here: @The lens is light and relatively compact, it's the same basic size as the 16-35 VR so it fits in the same cases, which is super convenient. The lens extends when zooming, but that allows it to be compact at 70mm for storage. It's plasticy but feels well built, and again contributes the light weight. The VR is amazing, it makes the high frequency shake of your hands turn into a low frequency wave which low shutter speeds can handle.Good lens. I still may get the 70-200 someday but this one is performing very well for now.

The AKG K240 Studio headset has a very balanced and precise sound throughout the frequency range. The bass is powerful and the treble is crystalline. I listen to music of various kinds, from Opera to Rock and I really like the rendering of details that K240 can give. It's really fantastic.

Great product, very powerful frequency boost/cut, precise and accurate. great for studio and live sound applications in a very good deal.

#Sweepstakes The Kopul 4000B cables are studio quality. The cables work well to eliminate static and frequency interference playing the bass guitar with an amp.

I have been using a pair of Tannoy Reveal monitors in my home studio for the last 20+ years, but to get decent frequency response I needed to use a 15 band graphic EQ and a Rane frequency analyzer... comes with a reference mic and a pink noise generator -- you try to adjust the EQ while watching the LEDs bounce up and down and adjust each band until the frequency response looks flat. I always had to tweak the EQ setting (maybe defeating the purpose) to make them sound more natural. Then I decided to upgrade my monitors. I went to the B&H store in NYC and listened to half a dozen, including Genelec, Yamaha, and others. I finally bought the Focal Alpha 65 EVO, which sounded the richest and yet were half the price of the Genelec 5. Bringing them home, they sounded much better with no EQ than the Reveals did with no EQ, but not as good as the EQ'd Reveals. I wanted to make sure I wasn't coloring the sound. So I bought the Sonarworks Reference 4 item. Well, it worked great. It comes with a very sturdy-looking reference mic. It was fairly easy to set up, it acquired sound points from about 36 spots in my listening area, and it took me about an hour to create a detailed frequency response curve. It has an application (and a plug in) that automatically corrects your computer's monitor sound output to flatten the speaker response. It seems to work great! The Focal monitors were fairly flat except for a peak at around 150 Hz, which the Sonarworks flattened, without having to resort to a graphic EQ. Unfortunately there's quite a bit of falloff below 100 Hz that I can measured, so beware... you will need a subwoofer with these monitors if you want to mix music. However, for general audio projects they would be a great addition to any studio.

Excellent cables, well-built. I use Mogami quad for studio given a slight edge in frequency response based on measurements I've seen, but the Canare quad cabling is definitely more robust for outdoor and set use - and theoretically better for interference rejection - due to the shielding design, so they live with my field recorder. Highly recommended.

It took me a few minutes to dial in the JBL, but once I figured that out it sounds smooth and complimented my setup perfectly. I'm not sure why anyone in a studio setting would want to use anything but the 80hz crossover. It had PLENTY of power, in fact, it's set to about 40 percent power to balance out with my studio monitors. Folks that say it doesn't have enough power need to turn down the gain of their monitors. The whole idea of a studio sub is not to blow you away (which this can certainly do) but rather to compliment (extend the frequency range of) the monitors. It does this very well. If you don't use this balance, your mixes will not be accurate may result in them being low-frequency deprived. I can easily switch between sub + crossovered monitors to monitors with no crossover with my Mackie 1642VLZ4 mixer. I just use a subgroup output to isolate my monitors without the sub. What makes this possible is that the HS8 monitors have 2 inputs, so your miles may vary. When dialing your sub in, remember that less is more. I've found this to be true in just about every facet of life. Happy Mixing.

It provides sound of the source without enhancing any frequency. Which helps to determine the quality of the source. Although it appears to be a studio headphones I have tried using it at live video recording. I wish it had had detachable cord. So one could buy appropriate length for the purpose at this moment I feel the weight of coiled wire which is longer than necessary.

Excellent value for the price. I use these for tracking in my studio, where a flat frequency response isn't critical. Plenty of volume and they last forever.
