Super 35 Size Sensor

THIS is the camera I've been looking for: Amazing low light performance and 10 bit 4:2:2 internal. With a speedbooster/focal reducer, the sensor is even bigger than APS-C, or Super 35, so it's between Super 35 and full frame, which is more than I need as a filmmaker. For the folks complaining that this doesn't have IBIS, well, this camera is not for you. If you want a vlog, travel, documentary, or wedding camera, then stick with the GH5. If you want superior low light, and to my eyes, even better color science compared to the GH5 (https://youtu.be/KDs32Poh2LI) for narrative films, then get this camera. I own a tripod, steadicam unit, and glidecam stabilizer, so I don't need the IBIS which actually will ruin the shots that I need for narrative work. The IBIS sensor in the GH5 is always moving even when you don't have it turned on. When you mount the GH5 on a car to do chase scenes, you will get warping jello artifacts due to the IBIS sensor always moving. The new Venus Engine sensor gives the skin tones a more natural dare I say it; Canon look. I've always had trouble color grading with previous GH4 and GH5's green/yellow skin tones, but not anymore. The look out of the GH5s beats the GH5 for narrative work due to a brand new sensor. See for yourself and do your own research on YouTube. If you are a filmmaker wanting to produce more narrative driven work, this camera will fulfill your needs. And given the affordable price for some of the many features you get like true Cinema 4K at 60fps, a time code option, and a full sensor readout giving you more accurate lens to sensor angle of view (all three of which the GH5 doesn't have), it is a no-brainer to get this camera for more creative narrative projects. 5 |

I use this with a 5D Mk2 and it performs great! Great for specialty wide angle or walk about lens at 35 mm. On crop sensor cam such as 7d 16mm is not quite wide enough but this is personal preference try the 10-22 EFS for a crop sensor camera. The 16-35 mm L 2.8 is definently worthy of the L designation, sharpness, color, contrast ect. is right on! Was exactly what I was looking for on the 5D Mk2. 5 |

This is a great wide angle lens for the 1.6 sensor cameras. As you probably know, it gives you a 16-35 mm. It is not an L lens but the glass is darn close. Very good clarity. Exterior is not L quality but neither is the price. 5 |

I'm late to the party on this one, because my first Sigma lens dates back to 2009, and it really was a poor man's Canon... I was also more of a full-frame shooter throughout the early 2010s, mostly 5D II and III and Sony's A7S line. This lens obviously doesn't play to that sensor size. Having shifted mostly to super 35 sensor cinema cameras (with the odd use of APS-H sized Canon 1D-C and 1D-X II), I picked this lens up, very curious as to its performance. I like wide angles a lot and love the creative possibilities of using those at low apertures. Up to that point my default lens was Canon's 24mm f1.4 prime, no slouch for sure, but a tad soft wide open, even in the center. I am happy to report that not only does the 18-35 deliver, it works like gang-busters wide open, and is noticeably shaper at that aperture than other comparable lenses. It also feels a little bit less contrasty that the Canon prime, which is a bonus in my case. Things get very interesting at 18mm, with barely noticeable distorsion and the possibility to achieve pleasingly soft backgrounds. It's meant to work on APS-C sensors, so I didn't expect it to work on the 1D-C's 1.3 crop, but to be honest, the worst I experienced was slightly darkened corners at 18mm, and by 22mm, no trace of vignetting at all. It's now the one I carry with me wherever I go. 5 |
