I video tape high school sports, have already done hockey and basketball, the zoom working very smooth, the cable connection helps that it is long enough to reach the camera, matter of fact it is plenty of cable

Fast, low light, portrait, street scenes, close sports: basketball & cross country running; those are just for starters

I use this lens for portraits and indoor high school sports (basketball, volleyball), and it's just fabulous. Inside the gym, I can set the aperture to 1.8 and the ISO to 800, and the images are just crystal clear. I also use the Canon 2.8L 70-200mm, and it's great, but that extra wide aperture can't be beat. For portraits, the buket is soft and gorgeous. Note that with cameras with APS-size sensors, 85mm is pretty darn zoomy -- I find myself frequently stepping back from my subject in order to get him/her/it completely in the shot. That's actually great for sports, but something to get used to with regard to people shots.

I shoot sports, senior pictures, weddings and events. I have had a 1DX II, EOS R in the past and currently own both the R6 and the R6II. I just shot my first basketball game last Friday with my two R6 cameras. Just a quick first thought on the R6 vs the R6II... The R6II has the most amazing autofocus shared from the R3 even surpassing the R6 for sports. I used the R6II with electronic shutter @ 20 frames a sec selection. Both the R6 and the R6II have the 20 frame rate but the II adds the 40 (too much for basketball and a very slow rate - too slow for sports. The quality of the pictures with electronic shutter on the R6II feels equal to the R6 using the mechanical shutter. I was always slightly disappointed in the electronic shutter on the R6 with slightly soft pics. As a test, I shot a good portion of the game with the EF 85mm f1.4 IS shooting at f1.8. The 85mm is a portrait lens right? Who would ever shoot a portrait lens for a fast moving game like basketball? Not only did the R6II nail focus with fast moving players, the pictures it produced were brilliant even with the electronic shutter. Highly recommend this camera!

I absolutely love this camera! I upgrade from a 40D. I bought this camera for my kids sports (basketball, soccer, tennis) and it takes amazing photos!

I have been shooting sports with this for 3 years. I use the 70-200 f/2.8 for indoors (basketball) and the 80-400 f/4.5-5.6 for outdoors (baseball, softball). I use continuous focus with a single point. The 10 fps helps to catch the best action shot. And the high-ISO performance is excellent. I shoot all of my basketball at ISO 8000! I have attached two shots, cropped to 3000 on the long side.

I know that you’re not supposed to use lenses like this for sports. I thought I would put it to the test during a local high school basketball game. What makes this lens work in this situation is that it’s coverage area is much larger than the scene, allowing to crop for a nice, tight image. Really bright. Lightweight. A joy to use. Looking forward to using it more in the future.

Easy to use. Dip switch controls explained on chassis makes sense.

I use this camera for concert photo's, wildlife photo's and some sports action shots. The auto focus response is amazing. As with any Nikon Camera the images are excellent. The camera body is solid and fits well in your hand. The illuminated controls are a great addition to this new camera. The controls and menue functions are easy to navigate. This new Nikon camera was worth the wait.
