I use this mic to record string and wind (brass mostly) instruments.  The different patterns make it effective in a variety of spaces depending on whether you want to reject other sounds or include reflections.  Versatile and great sound quality.

Excellent value. The tripod has a very solid feel. I've used it for shots in its highest and lowest positions and it has been very stable. The two part center shaft makes it easy to get low shots and it is easily reversed to position the camera low between the tripod legs. The pan/tilt head works well but I'll probably setup to a PHQ-1 at some point.

Highest standards of fabrication and materials (both glass and brass plus matte-black finish). Take a deep breath and shell out the extra. You'll be glad you did.

I bought this brass ring as a replacement for an aluminum one, which was constantly getting stuck onto various filters. Decoupling the filters and the ring was a major hassle, even with lens wrenches. While the brass seemed a bit expensive, it turned out to be well worth it to me. It goes on and comes off easily. I'd buy it again.
