The Instruments In Ray Charles Live Band Orchestra

I use this stand (one of five) for overhead miking various orchestral instruments and sections. It is tall enough, with the boom extended, to cover the high winds and strings in a band/orchestra, to supplement a center stereo pair and give better balance with the back row brass and winds. It is skinny enough to be unobtrusive placed in the middle of an orchestra or band. I found a suitable swivel at B&H to hang a stereo bar from a horizontal boom. A boom helps keep the microphones out of the way for video. If you don't need a 9' reach, the 40 reach of this stand might do the trick.

I purchased these for use as microphone stands for recording band and orchestra ensembles. They are fantastic, and the locking feature for transport makes it so nice to take them in and out of gigs.

I have used this mic for the first time for an on-location recording of a choir, band, and orchestra. I can verfy all the claims that Royer Labs make for this product. The sound is gorgeous - silky smooth and so accurate. The stereo image and location of individual instruments therein is absolutely uncanny! It is every bit as good as any recording I have ever heard from major studios. The crossed figure eight pickup pattern gives great ambience to the sound - you just have to hope your audience is quiet if you are recording a live performance (an acceptable tradeoff, I think). And, of course, being a ribbon microphone, you have to be sooo careful with it. It comes in a double case with a very well designed isolation mount included, a 25' 5 conductor cable, and a suitable 5 pin to two 3 pin XLR adaptor - all you need.

I use the Bogen 24' light as a microphone support for live classical recording. It is tall enough to place in an orchestra pit at a good height above the orchestra (12' above the stage). The leveling leg permits a balanced load to be used across a step or sloped auditorium floor. The fittings are all metal, operate smoothly and lock firmly without excessive force.

An artist cannot live without Magenta. I was unable to order this color from Canon directly. Band H came through!

If you are looking for a versatile mic for instruments, specially for use in live sound, this is a great product, excellent U.S quality construction and smoother sound than others with the same applications.

I switched to playing software instruments by midi at live music events but this is also perfect hot a DJ. I didn't need a full USB audio interface because I am not recording live audio. The box just takes digital audio via USB from my laptop, converts it to analog and sends it by ground lifted balanced outs to the PA. No noise, superb low latency with Ableton running NI plugins from a core2 duo MacBook.

Incredible live music microphone, or for recording up close instruments. While it is not as sensitive as say Nt5's for ambient and nature sounds, when given a substantial volume the mic really shines. I love it.
