When I saw Belkin was the same price as Apple’s thunderbolt 3 cable, it was a no brainer—you can’t go wrong with Apple adapters or cables. Size seems to be limited when it comes to data and TB3 chords. The $129 Apple TB3 cable seems way over priced, but the 2 standard sizes are solid, a decent price in comparison and Apple CService is top notch, just NOT as good as B&H, of course. 5 |

In a word - it works! We received the drive bay, connected it with the B&H Thunderbolt cable, plugged in a WD black drive and had 90MB/s write and 100MB/s read according to Blackmagic speed test on a 2011 vintage iMac. It was nice that the drives came up instantly. We connected power, the thunderbolt cable and stuck a drive in. OS 10.9 recognized it instantly.It blows away the eSATA Sonnet 5-bay drive connected through a P34 to Thunderbolt system. That thing barely runs at 28MB/s. My USB3 WD Passports give me 48MB/s. I wish the case were more sound and that it covered more of the drive. It really looks like it was built for SSD based on the form factor. This isn't something I'd use in a tough field environment but at the desk, it's not too bad. The price is right, far below that of other way overpriced enclosures. Really should a 5-bay drive cost 6 bills? No, it should be priced at what this unit costs.Drive arrays are massively overpriced compared to all other electronics. But price for delivery, I'm happy we bought this. Once more reasonably priced arrays come up, we'll supplant this one but until then, it's working fine so far. 5 |
