This mic boom is designed to be used to mic an acoustic guitar (or such) while the main, top mic is used for vocals. I use it to hold a pre-amp for my upright bass. The pre-amp has a mic thread on the bottom and this allows me easy access to adjust my volume and tone. It can be clipped either to a mic stand or to a music stand. Very impressive little product. The Yamaha YVC-1000 is top-of-the-line. We have a 15x35 foot conference room with about a 20-foot table in the center. We tried other products and just didn't get good enough microphone levels. The speaker is very loud and the included microphone is excellent. We've added one more microphone for extended coverage. I think the best feature is the built-in auto-tuning.
