Using Two Thunderbolt 3 Cables For Gpu

2024-07-29 09:44:45

These are some powerful cables. Using with a Thunderbolt 3 eGPU adapter this cable works great. Performance is good. Have not tested transfer speeds for storage but I don't use it for that. Allows for communication necessary for external GPU functionality though. framerates are appropriate for the GPU it's being used with. daisy-chaining works without issue. Seems like a sturdy and powerful cable. No complaints.

Using with dock with a late 2020 MacBookPro 13 M1 w 16gig.  I love having just one cable to attach to an external dock for all attachments including power!   Using the dock with an external 4k display, 3 or 4 hard drives, and a secondary older USB 2.0 dock (a/c powered) that I attach to this dock -- for a variety of low powered external devices such as camera or microphone. IMPORTANT: The dock great with the enclosed half meter cable but when I tried a longer cable, it failed to drive everything adequately, even though I checked the spec carefully and also it was a reliable brand (I think it was Anker).   I read a LOT about Thunderbolt 3 cables that afternoon and what I found is that everything DOES change once you exceed half a meter.   You may notice that a one meter Thunderbolt cable can oddly more than a half a meter cable. Why? There is some kind of extra internal circuit needed once you exceed the half meter point. Still, even with a proper one meter Thunderbolt 3 cable I could not get the full capabilities to work as I described above. I did not try other brands of cables, just decided to leave well enough alone.

Thunderbolt cables will not work when connecting to pre-thunderbolt Macs. This was truly plug and play.

My intent for this NAS is for Plex and storage of digital photos, but it will do much more. You can read the basic specs on the B&H site or via the manual. This thing is a powerhouse and will FAR exceed my needs, so I am looking forward to finding how to push it further. A couple of notes: the device comes with QNAP thunderbolt 3 card installed in the PCI 3x16 slot, but it's a 3x4 card and you can move it to the 2nd slot. However, if you plan on getting a dual-slot GPU (as I did), then the Thunderbolt card will no longer fit in the unit and becomes unusable. If you want GPU, consider a single-slot card (there are options in the Compatibility list), or don't use the Thunderbolt card. Secondly, there's some QNAP documentation issues about whether the unit will upgrade memory to 32GB or more. I was able to insert two 32GB Samsung memory chips to total 64GB (I called QNAP to verify the capacity). The 6-bay capacity is great. You can add 2 M.2 chips for cache acceleration, then 2 2.5 SSDs and 4 HDDs to use QTIER, where they prioritize hot files (frequently used) and cold files (longer storage) onto SSDs and HDDs respectively. Or go all speed (all SSDs) or capacity (HDDs). I bought from B&H because they had the unit available at a non-inflated price, and because it shipped expedited by default.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received a sample of the Thunderbolt 3 Cables in exchange for my unbiased review of the product. I work remotely and keep cables with me, so that I can be very productive with file transfers. These type c to usb cables are great. They transfer data fast and effectively. You can use these cables for a variety of applications. I use mine to connect my Hp windows pc to my external monitor.

Works great and is the only Thunderbolt 4 hub that lets me connect TWO Apple Studio Displays at 5K to my 16" MacBook Pro M1 via a single cable

Feels good, not as stiff as Apple's Thunderbolt Cables and seem to perform well
