I have four of these VariZoom VZ-Rock's we use with our HD cameras on tripods. We mainly use it to start and stop recording on the cameras, as well as zooming in and out while filming. They last forever unless you drop one, which is what happened to us. I do not shoot a camera on a tripod without one. You need a camera with a Lanc connection.

I purchased the VZ-Stealth-LX so that I'd be able to operate my Sony HXR-NX5U (the NX5U's remote only works when in front of the camera) while using my jib arm. Even though it's small, it feels solid and works very smoothly. I only tested it out when it first arrived to make certain that it functions properly, so I haven't used it in the field yet. I probably won't be using it with my tripod too often, because I'm comfortable with all of the NX5U's controls, but I know it's going to come in very handily when using the jib - rather than continually having to bring the camera down for adjustments.

I am using this with a Panasonic HC-X2000 and it works great, all functions are operational. I also have a AG-AC30, which uses the VZ PRO-PZFI controller, which also works great. I will be using the HC-X2000 for more creative work (the AG-AC30 has been mainly journalism) and I need to do controlled focus pulling...

I have own Varizoom products in the past, and the VZ-ROCK-PZFI lives up to the quality product I expect from Varizoom. I use the VZ-ROCK-PZFI with my Panasonic DVX200 and it delivers smooth zoom and great focus control. In addition you have control over the iris. I would never shoot on a tripod again without it.

I already own the VZ rock controller which has never let me down, I needed another realiable unit for new Sony NX3 but without all the extras as i only ever used the Zoom and record on the VZ Rock, this model is ideal for what i needed just plug it in and your off very smooth, the light comes on red indicating recording and starts flashing warning you of battery low or other camera problems.

A lower price when compared to others. VZ-Rock-EX makes it a little easier to zoom smoothly over using the built-in camera rocker (especially since it mounts on a pan handle). Good position for the record button to help avoid pushing it accidentally. Easily adjustable and mounted without tools. Fits on my 701HDV pan handles with ease. I'll definitely shoot with less fatigue and produce better quality with this product.
