This is my first DSLR, having shot film since 1980, and so far, I really like this camera. Since I have nearly zero experience with digital photography, the learning curve has been very steep for me, but as I gain some time and experience with it, I am finding that it just works as it should. I have collected lot of Nikon glass over the years, and this camera can use it all, even my pre-AI 300mm F4.5 telephoto lens. which mounts just fine. The price and availability of color films is what finally made me decide to try digital. Had Kodak Ektar 100 not more than doubled in price, I would still be happily shooting color film and avoiding digital altogether. I still shoot black and white film, and will continue to do so as long as it is available for sale. But for color, the Nikon D780 will be my main camera. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase, and I'm happy that there are still DSLR cameras available for sale. I'm not very excited about mirrorless cameras. I guess I'm just getting old.

I use this and numerous other Nikon lenses with my Mikon D70 and D200 Digital SLR cameras to do Lunar imaging.

I have been a Nikon digital camera fan for the past 15 years or so. I have not had to make adjustments to photos from this camera as I have for older Nikon digital cameras.. Does a great job.

This film is unreal and blows away digital period. I used this film with Nikon and Leica cameras and the results were stunning.

I took a photography class in early 90s using b/w film and learned how to develop and make my own prints. I even had (still have bit don’t use) an enlarger and all the other stuff for a a makeshift dark room. Then I gave up with the film v digital a few years later. I have been using Nikon gear for years including film cameras in the beginning. Now I have some Nikon Z gear and really love it. For years and years I have seen Leica cameras and thought “why are they so expensive?”. Not that Nikon isn’t but the Leica just seemed different and I maintained a curiosity about them but never really got too deep in the study of why Leica? A couple months ago I came across some info about the Leica Monochrom Q2M. I read reviews and was able to see some incredible images others captured with them. So one day I took the plunge and ordered one. I had no idea how much I would love it!!! I am still learning and have lots of room for improvement but I am much more likely to grab the Leica bag if I head out the door for whatever reason. I still love my Nikon but I also really love the Q2M. The decision process is simpler with the Q2M. Q - What lens? A - Always the same… 28mm Q - Color or B/W A - Always B/W Composition is important but with the high resolution images are easily cropped (digital zoom). AND the Leica FOTO app is great for remote camera functions.

I switched from Pentax to Nikon in 1991. I've owned three film and a couple of digital cameras, both APS-C. I'm in my early 70s. The D850 takes me back to full-frame photography. The features, ease of use, and results indicate to me that while Nikon may have lost a purchaser of new equipment, this camera assures a life-long user.
