West Hawaii Water Monitoring Study 2006

The best from the far west!

Brought this for a trip into West Virginia. Plenty of water to showcase some long exposure shots with the tamron 15-20 and the Nisi filter. I was pleasantly surprised at the low colour cast and sharpness available using this filter. It is noticeably better than the plastic filters I was previously using (no purple colour cast). This item combined with the specifically designed filter holder means my previous filters will now be left at home.

I think this lens is great, I own the previous version and this one is better. The auto focus is faster, thanks to the motor in the lens. I dont think the barrel is to big as others have stated, but I have good size paws and actually think the lens feels better in my hands. I bought this for a trip I took to Hawaii with my wife to watch the whales. The only lens filter I bought for it is a B&W clear to protect the lens. Looking at the water was a dream, the glass in this is great, the nano coating and ED lenses reduced the glare and no filters needed, I got some great shots of whales with it. In the past trips to Hawaii I had the first version and needed to put on Polarizing filter to reduce glare on water, with the new one it was not needed and the colors in the water came out great also. The build is better than the first version and the layout of the focus ring and zoom ring is much better. The only thing the lens did not have going for it was the tripod collar. But I took care of that and bought an aftermarket one and problem solved. To be honest it bothered me at first but after using the lens I feel the money spent went into the glass and its contruction, so no more worries. So if you are thinking about getting one just get it. If you have the first version and are taking lanscape pictures in good lighting maybe not, but if you are taking pictures in the dusk and dawn, water pictures, and or action photos then I think you should invest. Plus the lens price has just dropped which was a nice surprise for me because I used the rebate to buy a gopro hero 4. I am very happy with the investment and have not looked back.

These are basic, study, Made in the USA (I think), trays. Liquids pour out easily, and they stack and store easily. Three trays, three colours, which is smart. I create cyanotypes and need to see when the dyes in the water run off and the water turns clear. A white tray is essential for that. As someone else wrote about a different Yankee tray, the lower profile ridges that slightly lifts (the print print off the bottom of the tray) makes it easier to grab but not too big as to need to add much more chemicals to compensate for higher ridges like some trays.
