Windows 10 And External Hard Drives

I bought this through another retailer, but wanted to hop on and let everyone know that even though Windows 8 has some compatibility issues with some external hard drives (i.e. Hitachi/HGST) This unit is working flawlessly in Raid 1 mode on my Windows 8 system.

I normally use Seagate for external hard drives because they can be read by both Windows and Mac without a problem. I bought 2 of these WD hard drives because I need to consolidate my hard drives and these are very good. Recommend.

I've been using Western Digital external hard drives for the past 10+ years. They are affordable, and work great. I always buy two and duplicate my backup info so have a backup in case one fails. These aren't as fast as the SSD type, but as a photographer/videographer who keeps all of my photos in archive, that's what I use these for and don't need them to be particularly speedy. Great product - and glad they connect through USB C. Ideal for my MacBook Pro.

I've bought a number of external hard drives over the last 10 years to store various video projects. I have never had a WD drive fail (of course, now I've jinxed myself, but whatever), but I have had external hard drives from other manufacturers that have failed.

I had 3 Glyph external hard drives. My first, a 500 GB finally died in 2020 after 10 years. By then I had purchased two 2 TB Glyphs and they been running for almost 10 years. They haven’t failed, but two years ago I started moving to the Samsung T7 SSD drives you see at the top of the stack. All this while I used slow 5400 backup drives for Time Machine backups of all my other drives. I’ve had a few of these cheap, popular drives but get not more than 2-3 years before they fail. So I now purchased this new Glyph BlackBox drive and hope it will last a long time as a backup. Glyph has a good reputation for being reliable. It’s a backup so if it fails, not all is lost. It is relatively quiet, much whiter than the other Glyphs in the stack. I like the rubbery casing. It is heavy.

I use windows 8.1 quite often. On this mac, all drives (except the internal flash drive) are external. Windows runs great off Thunderbolt connected drives. You can have multiple window drives and select the one you want on boot by holding down the option key.

LaCie external hard drives are the best for the job and for the money!
