I was finally able to replace my old hit a button go fix a sandwich windows XP machine. I wanted a replacement that would do the job now while at the same time keep on ticking for years to come. This machine sits nicely in the middle with a 13th gen I7 processor, 32GB of included RAM, onboard DVD drive, a fast booting SSD and room to add more. I bought a Xcellon DisplayPort to VGA Adapter to connect my old Samsung SyncMaster 213T monitor and it works fine. Windows 11 could do better as far as drivers for older peripherals; it took a bit of doing but I have most of mine up and running now. The things I don't like so far: 1) Windows 11 takes it an inordinately long time to wake up from sleep mode. and 2) the DVD drive is pretty flimsy- like a cheap version of what you used to get in laptops. It remains to be seen how well it will hold up. Other than the inevitable learning curve and growing pains when upgrading to a new computer, that's about it. 5 |

I bought this DVD Drive to go along with an ASUS ZenBook Pro UX501VW DS71T laptop which doesn't include an internal DVD drive. This DVD drive is barely the size of a DVD disk. It matches nicely with the laptop. It comes with a software disk and a USB splitter cable (you will need two USB ports available on your computer to use this drive). It is well constructed and functions beautifully. The included software is optional. This drive is plug and play, however, my laptop didn't come with Windows DVD Player software. No Problem... I downloaded a highly downloaded free DVD software suite and it works perfectly. It does what I bought it to do. It is not a blue-ray player though. If that is important to you, you'll need to pick another drive. 5 |
