I purchased it to use internally to amplify my UDU drums. It worked great at amplifying all the deep bass to high trebles and doesn't clip due to sonic pressures created when playing the UDU. The microphone was recommended to me by top professional UDU players and they were right on the advice. Best microphone I have used yet for this purpose. I also tried it with my Native American flute and attached it to the fetish leather bands. Worked great for that application also. Highly recommended!! 5 |

There's a tongue-in-cheek rule of thumb in studios, that goes something like 'If you don't know how to record it, stick an SM57 on it'. It's not because a 57 is the clearest, cleanest, best sounding microphone out there, it's because it will sound 'okay' to 'great' on pretty much everything. It can take more level than a 24 bit tracking program can handle, and you can beat the heck out of it, and it will keep on ticking. It sounds great on snares, kick beaters, guitar cabs and bass cabs, sounds good on tom drums, kick drums, and strangely, sounds good on dulcimers. Sounds great on a lot of vocalists, doesn't sound bad on a lot of vocalists. It's the most versatile microphone you'll own. If you're doing any music recording, in a studio, guerilla recording, a live environment, anything, you should get one, or two, or more. 5 |

The 414 has earned its place as a classic microphone. I had been using Rodes as overhead mics for drums in my studio, but I had never been satisfied, they just couldn't bring out the details and the delicate nature of the cymbals. The 414s do that, while retaining oomph in the toms. 5 |

I purchased this microphone and the Countryman battery powered module to use for amplifying UDU drums. It exceeded my expectations!! Excellent microphone for this purpose and for amplifying Native American flutes. Can't wait to try it on the silver flute and saxophone. If you want a Microphone to use inside of UDU drums where you need to amplify the sounds they produce yet reject the heavy compression created inside of drums this is the microphone for you! 5 |

I bought this microphone because I was in need of microphones to record guide tracks for choirs. I needed a simple mic and the SM57 look is perfect because it's plain and simple. This is not an SM57! And it doesn't need to be because it is still a great mic. I use it for individual voices on choirs, voice overs, acoustic guitars, electric guitars, ukuleles, and drums. Because it's a dynamic, it isolates the sound fairly well. I love this microphone. I own 3 of them all from B&H. I own a studio and actually don't even own even one real SM57 because I don't need it. This does a great job. I have plenty of experience and a Bachelor's Degree in Music Recording. I've also used them on kick drums and they sound surprisingly well. I've also used this microphone at a live event where the speakers were using these microphones. The only thing that I can list as a con is that the connector at the bottom became loose. All I had to do was push the little plastic plate that holds the xlr pins in and problem solved! 5 |

I always liked the sound of a Sennheiser microphone and used Audio Technica and Rode shotguns in studio. There is nothing wrong with the Rode NTG2, or the Audio Technica mics I own. I just wanted some industry standard sound in the studio. I was using a Neumann U87 for voice overs until today. I compared the two and the MKH-416 had an instantly usable sound with little to no eq. The bass is more pronounced on the shotgun mic as well. On drums, I used a pair as overheads but further away from the drum set than normal. I could pick up the details of the brushes on the snare head with incredible detail and the balance of the drums were nice and full. I was very impressed and am glad I picked up a pair when they were on sale! If you find a good price for them, it's an amazing mic to add to your collection. 5 |
