Absolutely need two, paired. Otherwise, I'm afraid you'll experience the "one hand clapping" effect. And the two will deliver the "1+1=3 effect."

Whether you're clapping down lighting for your camera or tightening an IR Flashlight to enhance Night vision, Manfrotto's Super Clamp is the Best way to Secure ancillary devices that aid in your projects. The Manfrotto Super Clamp can secure a great many things to Tripods via its 1/4"-20 thread. It's wedge comes in handy to clamp down flat surface area devices. The additional double threaded (1/4"-20, 3/8") reversible stud gives you more options for adding even more to your setup. Excellent product that is strong, versatile and great overall deal for the price!

Bought this for a kids birthday party hoping it would make a great clapping sound to encourage the kids to clap for Flappy The Clown. DOES NOT SOUND LIKE CLAPPING HANDS! It does work well at slating scenes in film making though, so I guess I will keep it.

Beyond the practical use, folks on camera tend to get a kick out of clapping the sticks. It's a tool to loosen up the mood.
