I decided to make a switch from the power house yamaha rxa2080.. was worried I would be dissatisfied but I was wrong. I prefer the warmer tone of denon and the UI/audyssey. Also wanted it for future proofing and the ability to turn off the internal amps to utilize my external amps better. Pros: 8k 60fps and 4k 120fps Powerful warm sound Many options UI Cons: Need to pay for app to utilize important features.. low blow Same goes for Dirac live Reference has unwanted high roll-off with no option to change Multi eq app is hard to adjust using phone 5 |

An incredibly powerful amp! Drives my B&W 704 S2s effortlessly! Weighs like a tank, thick power cord. 5 |

I like that it includes a volume control, a power switch and audio control. 5 |

My old Yamaha Receiver was struggling to support 4K TV. For example, high res Netflix sound stopped working and lacked 4K upscaling support. I had this new receiver up and running with 5.1 sound support in less than 30 minutes. I then reprogrammed my Harmony Hub Remote to control the receiver + AppleTV + Samsung 4K TV. Picture and sound are both excellent and I love the addition of Bluetooth IN and OUT support. Love SCENE control programming. Picture quality out of my 4K Apple TV is better than ever. Even better than direct-connect to TV. My Youtube TV and Youtube looks and sounds great. Highly recommended. 5 |

A week into this amplifier and I’m pleased with its performance and value. The A-S301 replaces a Denon PMA-600NE which I had -- briefly. The main problem with the Denon was the dodgy motorized volume control. Like the motorized volume control on the A-S301, it rotates clockwise from about 7:00 to 5:00 either by hand or by using the remote. The problems with the Denon were (1) it had almost no volume between 7:00 and about 8:30, and then the volume came on with a rush and (2) the steps using the remote were too coarse (an online review of a Marantz amplifier – same parent company – noted the same things). I was curious how the Yamaha volume control would work, but I need not have worried. I stuck a little orange dot on the volume knob and it was easy to tell that both the knob movement and the volume levels were aligned, and that the amplifier was capable of fine adjustment manually or with the remote. The other nice feature about the A-S301 (and its siblings) is the loudness control. I haven’t needed it much for contemporary CDs or FLAC files, but recently I got some FLACs and CDs of re-mastered Arturo Toscanini/NBC Symphony recordings from the early 1950s. These are mono, but adjusting both the volume and loudness greatly improved the listening experience. Kudos to Yamaha for that feature at this price point. I’m using a pair of Polk ES15 speakers, which is a combination that several online reviews recommend. I also have a Polk XT10 down-firing subwoofer. My living room is not large, and the Yamaha/Polk setup makes for a very good listening experience. The only thing I miss from the Denon is the built-in Bluetooth for listening. I like to play music from the speakers, and also use a pair of on-ear headphones around inside the house. I still haven’t found a good solution for that, but it certainly wasn’t a deal breaker. Taking all into consideration, and as others have noted, the A-S301 punches way above its weight. 5 |

I bought a set of Yamaha HS8 powered monitors. They have balanced inputs and I am feeding them from my digital recorder -- the Zoom F8 -- which works as a USB Audio Interface. I would say that a volume control is required with a set of powered monitors. The build quality of the PMC-II is solid and the control is precise and smooth. You have the option to use either balanced or single ended connections. I use balanced and the audio quality is great. Without the controller I get some interference unless I use balanced connections. The Mute button is convenient but a Dim button would have been nice too. 5 |

Switches are easy to install and control from the app. Not much to it. Does exactly what I need to control my switch remotely over the internet. 5 |
