The LTO-9 Full-Height 8G Fiber Channel External Desktop Tape Drive from MagStor is a full height tape drive in a desktop enclosure. LTO tape has a 30-year shelf life. Users can easily drag-and-drop files to and from an LTO tape with the peace of mind that LTFS is open source and you can access your files in the future with a variety of software. Traditional backups to tape are still commonplace with TAR software. MagStor LTO drives are compatible with most TAR backup systems that work with IBM-based tape drives.

I purchased 3 of the WD 14TB Elements Drives and ran the WD Extended Diagnostics test which takes more than 48 hours each. But, Win10 did an update before it was done then turned off the computer. So I unplugged the LAN cable to prevent Win10 from doing it again. All 3 drives passed. These drives are the same size and noise level as the 12TB and 10TB Elements drives. These drives are going to backup Synology Servers in which the WD Diagnostics Test Software won't run- it needs Windows. So now I feel better knowing the drives will likely work-- no surprises. 5

I got 2 - 14tb units and cleaned up a lot of disparate storage across multiple smaller devices, with loads of room to spare. That will keep me happy for a few years, until I need some 28tb units. 5

I bought it on sale, $176 or so, and it is worth the money. I have several other WD hard drives for many years and as long you do not drop them, they work just fine. It is, or it seems to be, faster than older WD hard drives I have and that is a plus. It is rated 12TB but actually it is 10.9TB. Still big enough to back up 4 of my smaller hard drives. I will buy more when on sale again. 5
