Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have Whistler 450 AW II. Does this one offer more space for other hiking noncamera gear or it is just smaller overall?

A: The Lowepro Flipside Trek BP 450 AW Backpack (Gray/Dark Green) is larger than the Whistler 450 AW II. So, the camera compartment and the Top compartment are larger.

Q: 2. Will the 250 AW fit a travel tripod such as the Vanguard Veo 2 265AB in the side compartment?

A: I'm not familiar with that particular tripod but I will tell you that the tripod pocket on the side of this backpack is the one disappointment that I have with the one I purchased. The side pocket is made of very lightweight material that will not withstand much in the way of wear. My travel tripod will not fit in the pocket but I have carried a collapsed monopod. Hope this helps. Other than the above problem, I like the item.

Q: 3. Is the Torso length adjustable? I'm 5'8' and not sure if this bag will be too big for me (21-22 in torso)

A: The Lowepro Flipside Trek BP 450 AW Backpack shoulder straps can be adjusted on the bottom. The Active zone is 20'' long.

Q: 4. Are the material durable? Are they water resistance fabric that can stand light shower or wet ground?

A: Yes, theis bag is strongly water resistent due to a built in rain cover, and also the material is durable.

Q: 5. I see no evidence in the photos of “Body Side Access.” Is it actually there on the BP 450 or is this mislisted? Does someone have a pic of the opening in the side if it is there? Thanks!!

A: "Body Side Access" means that the opening for the camera would be against the body when wearing the backpack. The camera opening is securely against your back which helps from theft of your gear when wearing your backpack in busy urban areas, and it allows you to access your gear while wearing the backpack with the attached waist belt, and/or allows you to place your pack on the ground without getting dust or debris in the backpack or putting dirt on the back of the case. The images on our website show the opening on the side of the case closest to your back when wearing the backpack. There is no side access for this case, only body-side access. If you click the "Show More" link under the image, it will show more images of the case, including images of the open case, and the last image is an image of a model wearing the case and open while accessing the gear as described above.

Q: 6. I currently have a Hatchback backpack, and I'm looking for something with more space. Is the 350AW a good choice or just go for the larger purchase of the 450AW? I currently don't have a lot of gear, but always looking to add more. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A: I have spent a career looking for the perfect bag. It is never ending but fun. That being said, what bag you get depends entirely on what you are doing and what you feel YOU need. You mention 4 bags and they easily divide: 2 are for hiking+photography; 2 are strictly for carrying photo gear. If you plan serious hiking, go that way and get a hiking bag. If you are getting gear in the near future and want a bag for just that, get the photo gear bag. Look up the number of cameras and lenses that are listed and whether the bag is for the larger DSLR or the smaller mirrorless. See if those numbers match the gear you have or are going to soon get. If so, that is your bag. I suggest getting the bag that fits you now. Otherwise you may have too much bag to deal with.As I alluded to, there is always another bag around the corner.

Q: 7. What is the bag volume in terms of liters?

A: According to Lowepro, the Flipside Trek BP 250 AW has a 10L capacity.

Q: 8. Will a Peak Capture plate attach to the straps on this pack?

A: As the bag itself has no arca-swiss clamp, there will be no way to attach the plate to the bag. However, if you mean attaching the Peak Design Capture Clip system, there are several places where the clip can be attached. The straps taper out and can be snuggly fit over the thickest part of the material. If your equipment isn't too heavy (medium-SLR or mirrorless) you can also attach it to several of the thinner-material straps that are on the main shoulder straps. In either case, we recommend that you use the hex-head fastening screws rather than the normal ones.

Q: 9. How well would a Benro series 2 Mach 3 with 3 sections tripod fit in this backpack?

A: That Benro tripod has a folded length of 26" and the maximum dimension of the pack is 12", so it wouldn't fit inside the pack, but it could be carried attached to the outside of the pack easily.

Q: 10. What exactly are the materials used to make this backpack? Polyester or Nylon?

A: The materials listed are: Poly 500D Kodra, Poly 500D X 300D Dobby, Tricot Polyester, and Velex Nylon.

I’ve been using my backpack to bring my camera lenses and bulky underwater housing to and from the beach and it’s been great! I was able to change the inside to properly fit all my equipment, it’s keeping everything protected and ready to shoot!

I got the Lowepro Flipside to go on a hiking trip to Zion National Park. I needed room for my camera, two lenses, extra batteries, and misc. hiking gear and snacks. I had previously purchased and used the smaller sized backpack--I hiked a full day, first to Angel's Landing, and then to Emerald Pools--and it was quite comfortable the entire day. We are going back for more hiking, and I wanted more room for snacks, so I got the 450 size. We did not get to go on our trip due Coronovirus recommendations to avoid discretionary travel, but when we are able to reschedule, I can't wait to use the 450 size!

I bought this for an upcoming trip to Death Valley. It holds all my gear: Sony A7M3, 20/1.8, 85/1.8, 70-300, Sigma 70 ART macro, color checker card, remote, first aid kit, plenty of room for emergency food & salty snacks, two water bottle pockets deep enough for them to be secure, with the tripod lashed to the exterior center straps. I’ve taken a few hikes fully loaded and the system wears very well. One tip: put soft items or your shortest physical lenses at the bottom of the pack, or your lower back may feel them
