The 8 x 10", 25-count RETROBROM 151 Sp Grade #2 FB Glossy Paper from Foma is a customized black-and-white paper featuring silver bromide iodide emulsion. It's made on a thick, double-weight fiber-based (FB) baryta paper base and offers a rich halftone scale. It can be used for exposure or developing. It has a fine-grain and warm green-brown tone, and the paper base is colored in a light green-yellow tint.

The mid-level optical sensitivity of this paper allows contact copying and even enlarging to big formats. The specific warm tone makes this paper suitable for retro-style images, especially portrait photos but also for still life, landscape, structure and detail, abstraction, and other applications. It's also suitable for lith printing. The paper is produced in the Sp contrast grade.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this paper be damaged by airport security check X-ray scan machines or it's package protects the paper from this problem ?

A: Theoretically, it is possible that high strength X-ray machines can fog film or paper, which is typically the case with checked bagged rather than hand-carry/carry-on which typically use a weaker form of x-ray radiation.

Q: 2. Can you leave this paper after exposing in the fridge for a period of time before developing? Not near a darkroom

A: You can hold off processing the HARMAN technology Direct Positive Fiber Based (FB) Paper (Glossy, 4 x 5", 25 Sheets). But do not do that for long times. It is best to process right away but you can wait a few days or so.

Q: 3. I heard that when this came out it did not fit into 4 x 5 film holders and had to be trimmed. Has this been corrected and it does fit or does it still need to be trimed?

A: Some people don't have issues and some do. It's probably a combination of different holders and a little bit of user error, hope nobody gets insulted. It seems that with some extra force the sheets should slide in. The best thing is to waste a sheet to see if the width, length or thickness is the culprit and adjust accordingly.

Q: 4. Can this be developed using cafenol?

A: While cafenol is not listed, this paper has been developed in most any developer known. This is a very experimental paper so try it and see.

Q: 5. Can I use Ilford WASHAID to shorten the rinse time from 1 hour? I'm using Ilford DEV, STP, & FIX.. in trays

A: Yes, Wash Aid will help reduce wash time with the Harman Direct Positive paper.

Q: 6. Does the manufacturer has an ISO for this paper ?

A: The Technical Information data sheet for the Ilford Harman Direct Positive Fiber Based (FB) Paper sates the paper has a slow ISO speed (between ISO 1 - 3), enabling a good latitude of control.

Q: 7. What kind of darkroom chemistry do I need to develop the paper?

A: This fiber based paper can developed in any standard B&W paper developer such as Kodak Dektol, B&H # KODG. Please see the image below for reference.

Q: 8. After pre-flashing, can I use it a few hours or days later? Or should it be used immediately?

A: There is no set time listed for storing pre flashed HARMAN technology Direct Positive Fiber Based (FB) Paper (Glossy, 4 x 5", 25 Sheets). As with all photographic materials, they do degrade over time - so the shorter the time frame, the better. Be sure to store all papers in a cool and dry environment.

Q: 9. Is this available in luster?

A: Unfortunately, this paper is currently available only in glossy and emulsion-in.

Q: 10. I am not sure I understand the unit : 66' . Is it 66 feet or inch ? Thanks

A: This is a roll of paper that is 24 inches wide by 66 feet long.

I do mostly lith printing with this paper. It responds very well to the lith developing process and it has a really nice warm tone.
