A: Yes, on my sample, the leather pad is free to move from side-to-side, along the narrower main strap. Complete removal could be difficult, because the pad can't slide past the place where the strap attaches to the camera. For complete removal of the pad, it seems the pad needs must be cut off with scissors, or a knife. Bear in mind the current strap may not be quite the same as my strap, because more than a year has passed since I bought it.

Keep in mind that this leather strap is very long and camera hangs much lower on the chest than with Leica's strap that has the plastic or rubber-like pad that sits at the back of one's neck; I prefer that strap and the cost is less than half that of the leather one.
