Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the Audix MB5050 have an off/on switch? The only way I have been able to make it a non open mic is to unplug at input.

A: There is currently no on/off switch available on the Microboom Rod.

Q: 2. Would this mic work ok for streaming? I'd like to not have the mic on screen and be able to move my head a little. Also would it pick up a lot of the speaker audio? I don't want to use headphones if I can get away with it.

A: I can't imagine a problem with streaming. As for picking up your monitor audio, that's a bit tricky to answer without seeing your recording space. I'm guessing that some noise reduction to reduce your monitor audio bouncing back and having the monitors behind the mic should result in a clean sound without picking up the monitors... but this would be true for any mic that's not omnidirectional. We use this mic at about 3 feet from two people talking and it's awesome... we don't use the monitor. If money's not a limiting factor, this mic also has different heads that support different patterns..

Q: 3. To keep out of my shot, how far away can this be placed from the subject? For a one person indoor interview.

A: The Audix SCX1-HC can be placed at around 5 feet away from the person talking, at the very most.

Q: 4. What is the difference between this M1250B microphone and the M1255B microphone?

A: The Audix M1250B and M1255B are effectively the same however the M1255B is more sensitive for distant miking purposes, whereas the M1250B is intended for close mic positions.

Q: 5. Where is the link to only the omni-directional capsule? I can't seem to find it

A: The Audix SCX Omni capsule is not currently available as a separate item.

Q: 6. Is the maximum height only 21 ? Can that be right?

A: The Audix MB-STAND is a low profile floor stand. Used in conjuction with the Audix MicroBoom System. See the following link for application example. a href= http://bhpho.to/1KJSkbq target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1KJSkbq/a

Q: 7. Does it need require phantom power?

A: Yes. The Audio-Technica AT4053b Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone BH #AUAT4053B requires phantom power. Operating Voltage: 48 V Operating Current Consumption 4.8 mA

Q: 8. IS this USB 2.0 or 1.1 ?

A: The Audix USB12 requires a USB2.0 connection or higher for proper operation.

Q: 9. would this work good on an alto saxophone?

A: Yes, you can use the Audix ADX20I Cardioid Condenser Instrument Microphone (B&H# AUADX20I ) on an alto saxophone. This is just the mic only and it has a mini-XLR output connector which requires a power supply. You may want to purchase the same mic packaged with the compatible phantom power supply, which is the Audix ADX20IP Cardioid Condenser Instrument Microphone with APS910 Power Supply (B&H# AUADX20IP). The power supply has a mini-XLR input connector for the mic and a standard XLR output connector to connect to your amp, PA or recorder.

Q: 10. Does it require phantom power?

A: Yes. The Audio-Technica AT4053b Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone BH #AUAT4053B requires 48V phantom power.

I'm a full-time video producer who shoots a lot of interviews. If you shoot indoor interviews you need this mic. Period. I used to try and get away with using a shotgun mic (Rode NTG-2), but all too often the audio was way too echoey. This mic has the same output level as my NTG-2, but it delivers pure, clean dialog. No room echo. Huge difference. I should have invested in this mic a long time ago. It's also really small and light so it's easy mount on the end of a boom stand and not worry about it falling over. I also like the reduced proximity effect. Bass response sounds natural at close distances.

Got this mic to be a workhorse hypercardioid for interior dialogue. Very impressed with the clearity, low noise, and directionality. Honestly I anticipated a good mic but this exceeds expectations. This mic has top tier performance.

I wanted a hypercardiod mic to my kit for dialogue in interiors mostly. I read this was a poor mans Schoeps. So far I'm impressed, especially for the price.

I have been using the Audix SCX1/HC for indoor dialogue recording and it has been a great tool. For the money, it is a great investment.

After looking for a good dialogue mic on a budget I settled for the SCX-1. The mic delivers clear and rich dialogue and is especially good at picking up whispers and those quieter sounds that are essential to tight shots. The small profile of the mic makes it easy to squeeze into tight interior spaces which I've found especially handy. On top of all this it looks sleek and comes in a nice wooden carry case. Great value for money and wouldn't hesitate to use it on a full feature film.

Coming from using a Rode NTG2 as a dialog mic for short films, the Audix SCX1/HC is an amazing upgrade. Compared to the NTG2, it's night and day. This mic captures clear, almost noise-free dialog. Really all I can say is Wow! It is the real deal for professional quality voice recording. I can't imagine that I'd ever need to replace this with anything else. This is the first piece of video or audio hardware that's ever truly exceeded my high expectations!

I bought this after purchasing a Schoeps Colette Series Supercardioid Microphone Set and feeling underwhelmed for the sound to cost ratio. But the SCX1 really sounds fantastic for the price, as good as the Schoeps in my estimation for recording interviews.

We're using this mic primarily for promotional videos shot indoors, but it has also been used with great success on a web series for indoor dialogue. We use a Sound Devices MM-1 to power it. Great sound, good rejection of echoes in smaller spaces.

I am using this for an interior audio set-up on a boompole. The quality of the mic is great with a warm tone. I recommend purchasing with the kit to save money. The wood case is nice but I would've preferred a more durable Pelican style case which I ended up purchasing separately and leaving the wood case in storage.
