Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use the Mic to broadcast media e.g. Periscope. Or to record video on my phone?

A: Yes the smartlav+ does become the default audio device when connected to the iPhone, so it works fine with Periscope and other apps such as the native Video app. We have uploaded a few videos showing the smartlav+ being used for Periscope on the RDE Youtube channel.

Q: 2. Does this mic work with the blackberry Q10?

A: Have not tried with a BB

Q: 3. How is the noise compared to a boom mic?

A: A mic like the AT4053b would be recommended for indoor dialog capture. The pickup pattern is wider than a traditional shotgun, however for indoor were there are many reflective surfaces, this is a benefit as compared to a more directional mic.

Q: 4. Can this be used with a regular recorder (with a 1/8 microphone jack) instead of a smartphone (i.e. Olympus Ws-852)?

A: It does with the Rhode adapter. Also, this mic requires power. It did not work immediately with my digital recorder, which is a Roland R-05, as I expected. Upon further examination I realized there was a setting to send power to the mic and it worked like a charm.

Q: 5. Plug in power

A: All you need to do is plug the mic into the headphone jack. The mic needs no other power.

Q: 9. 1) how long is the cord?2) I want to record 1 minute video clips into my iPhone7 plus. Will this work? Does it connect straight to my phone? Will I need anything else to accomplish what I want to do?

I bought this for Zoom hearings because my computer microphone made me sound distant. I had an initial problem connecting to my iMac because it recognized it as an output device rather than an input speaker. Rode customer service helped by directing me to get a Trond USB-A adapter.
