Tiffen 52mm Fl-d Fluorescent Glass Filter For Daylight Film

$75.00 $93.75

A Tiffen 52mm FL-D Filter is used when you wish to correct for the greenish tone that appears when shooting daylight film under general purpose fluorescent lighting.

NOTE: The FL series of filters alone does not always guarantee 100% correct color balance when shooting under fluorescent lighting. They are general purpose filters intended for moderate correction and will not, by themselves, necessarily provide perfect color rendition.

An FL-W filter is used to balance daylight film under warm white or white type fluorescent lamps. An FL-B filter is used to correct the color balance when shooting tungsten film under fluorescent lighting.

Fluorescent lamps burn at many different temperatures and often require more demanding filtration for exact results. For specific filtration and professional use, it is strongly recommended that a color temperature meter be employed along with Color Correction filters (i.e.CC30M) when shooting under fluorescent lighting. This is the only proven way to achieve exact color correction.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the end of this filter threaded?

A: The side of this ND filter that faces outward, away from the camera lens to which it is attached, is NOT threaded.

Q: 2. Any vignetting on a wide angle lens tamron 35mm 1.8 on a full frame?

A: I would eat my light meter if one filter ever vignetted on a 35mm lens mounted to a full frame camera.

Q: 3. Would this lens be appropriate for color infrared film?

A: Hi Cindy,I think you mean filter, not lens. This filter is intended for black and white film only. It is good for increasing contrast in a scene that has low contrast. There is a 1 stop filter factor.

Q: 4. Does anyone know the approximate Kelvin temperature of the FL-W filter?

A: The Hoya FL-W Fluorescent Hoya Multi-Coated (HMC) Glass Filter for Daylight Film covers a temperature range around 2700-3000K.

Q: 5. Any vignetting while using aps-c censor with 16 mm lens ( 24mm on full frame)

A: I use these filters with an 18mm lens and havent noticed any significant vignetting. Especially if you are correcting for your Lens profile in photoshop. The only serious draw back is at 18mm the rim of the filter is visible when I stack/screw them together to further slowdown the exposure. I have been getting by this by zooming in slightly to get the rim of the filter out of view. But when only using one filter at a time they work great.

Q: 6. Does the effect work with digital cameras? If so, does the auto white balance need to be turned off? Thanks

A: The only useful way to utilize this filter would be if you were shooting in a monochrome mode on a digital camera, or if you had a digital camera that has had an infrared conversion done to it.

Q: 7. What is the outer diameter to each thread size? For example, the 72mm thread has an outer diameter of 85mm.

A: The outer diameter of the Tiffen 77mm Variable Neutral Density Filter is 88mm, plus or minus a few µm.

Q: 8. Do these introduce any color cast?

A: Neutral density filters do not cause any color cast or affect the color of an image, but rather, darken an image.

Q: 9. Will this 9mm thick ND filter work on Nikon 10-24mm Wide angle or is there a thin version? Thanks in advance, Terry

A: The Tiffen 77mm Variable Netural Density Filter may cause vignette on a Nikon 10-24mm lens. B+W makes a thinner profile variable ND filter with a larger filter ring that will be better for use with a wide angle lens: http://bhpho.to/OH7mr4

Q: 10. Is this filter multicoated?

A: no

Hoya always makes great products and this doesn't disappoint. This is a great filter that will cut out that green tint when using tungsten film in fluorescent lights.
