Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. While it fits my RRS and Acratech ball heads, it slides on both. Am I missing a piece or is this not made for those ball heads?

A: The Oben SPA-1000 Arca-Type Smartphone Tripod Adapter BH #OBSPA1000 is made to attach to a standard 1/4"-20 tripod mount. It will not attach to a ball head.

Q: 2. Does this rail have laser etched or painted on marks?

A: I'm not sure how to tell the difference between painted and laser etched, yet the numbers that are present (on each side of the rail, as well as the top) appear to be high quality and durable. The nodal rail also has a nice feel (weight) in the hand, and is solidly well constructed. I'd recommend the purchase. The only thing missing is a marker system to mark your settings once you've establish them for your particular lens. My work around for this has been some black electrical tape to mark my key positions, or to write the numbers down on some paper I keep with me.

Q: 3. how much does the tripod weigh without the ball head?

A: The Oben CTT-1000 Carbon Fiber Tabletop Tripod weighs in at approx 12.5 ounces without the Ball Head.

Q: 4. Would the back knob prevent flipping the camera lcd screen such as the camera Fuji XT2 ? How many millimeters of clearance are there ? Would it fit the Hasselblad 500cm ?

A: The back knob will not be an issue with either camera because the quick release plate raises the camera bottom so it is higher than the knob. The clearance is likely 5-10mm.

Q: 5. Would this rail work well with a fisheye 8mm lens? I'm worried it may be a little too long. BUT I'd like to find something I can use for fisheye, 85 and my 50 mm prime.Or am I asking too much of one piece.

A: The DNR-120 is shorter and would be better for use with a fisheye lens. Please see the following link:http://bhpho.to/1n0MHt9

Q: 6. Hello, with this Nodal Rail is nothing more necessary? I mean, do I put the Nodal Rail on my tripod, and can I use it for panoramic photographs? Or do I need to buy something else to complement it with the Nodal Rail?

A: You would need two of the other rails to build the full panoramic shooting rig. An easier alternative would be to get an L-Bracket and a tripod head that pans.

Q: 7. Does this work with the peak design capture? or do i need to buy the dual plate instead?

A: This has an arca-type head, so it will work with the QR Plate that comes with the capture clip.

Q: 8. Has anyone tried this with an Acratech GP/GP-s/GP-ss ball head? I am thinking about saving some cash and using this nodal slide with my GP-ss with lever clamp.

A: I am sorry but the manufactures have not tested that Nodal Rail with that head. And Arca-Swiss heads are very precise and many items that are Arca-Swiss style will not fit as well as some other brands or its own brand.Best is to get an Arca-Swiss brand with their head.

Q: 9. Does this have an arca groove on top as well as, obviously, the bottom does? Can't tell by pics..

A: The Desmond DNR-180 Nodal Rail doesn't have an Arca groove on top.

Q: 10. I've read the 140 is too short for the Nikon 14-24. Is this long enough or should I go for the 200? Since I backpack a lot, every inch counts.

A: I have found this to be a bit short when I used it with a D800 and my Nikon 14-24. The Nikon D800 is so good and I have found that I really didn't need this to get good panos.

This is something I've wanted to get for so long yet never did. This is amazing for those that travel and do not have a high end camera or cannot carry one but want nice clean shots with their cellphone. Let's face it handheld shots most of the time get blurred with our shaky hands as we get older!

This is a great smart phone mount and pairs great with my Oben tabletop tripod. I have an iPhone 11 and it's easy to get in and out. I just started to shoot higher quality YouTube Videos and I'm really happy with it. It's all aluminum, lightweight and durable.

Cons: limited angles to move the phone to, the ASPTA-20 has a lot more flexibility and does not have a light mount.

I use it with an iPhone 11 Pro and it does what it's meant to do and didn't cost much. I haven't been able to find anything to dislike about it.

Top machining quality and feel: beautiful smooth black finish anodized aluminum finish.
Simple 2-piece design with nothing to break.
I was looking for a holder that can handle a phone with and without a case. It has two 1/4-20 UNC female threads (standard, that’s what is at the bottom if you camera) at its back and its bottom. Its bottom design is also shaped to fit arca-type tripod heads, which is what I am looking to get next.
Even without a tripod, the arca-type bottom makes it stable enough to place on a flat surface and hold the phone in landscape orientation for photos, video calls or to watch a movie.
The bottom and top of the clamp sections that hold the phone have these grippy rubber pieces. This is a nice touch to grip securely but also to project the phone from scratches. The pieces are removable. There are also two vertical grippy rubber strips on the inside of the vertical section of the clamp.
It holds my iPhone 7, iPhone X and iPhone 7 Plus securely.
I don’t think it will hold anything bigger than the Plus such as the iPad Mini FYI but it fits a couple of power banks I had and I could see some people using it for that purpose with 1/4 to 1/4 male threaded screw adapter (double head) on a cheese plate or on a video rig.
My absolute favorite thing about this holder is that its clamp tension isn’t too strong.
I had another phone holder and I never used it because I was concerned it would damage my phone, it was so tight! The SPA-1000 is great for that.
Highly recommended, I am not seeing any weaknesses or downsides to it.
