Tiffen 67mm Ultra Contrast 5 Filter
- Product Code: ga1031

The Tiffen 67mm Ultra Contrast 5 Filter can be applied to purposely reduce contrast while photographing an image or while recording video. By distributing ambient illumination to darker areas within a scene, this filter is useful in helping to uniformly balance the tonal range among highlights and shadows. Detail is increased within shadow regions while flare and halation around highlights is purposely limited.
This filter has a grade of 5. Grades of 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 3, and 4 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase.
This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.

Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Where are these filters made? (country of origin and assembly)
A: The Neewer MRC Ultra-Slim UV Filter is made in China.
Q: 2. What is a graduated neutral density filter?Does the filter rotate? By this I mean, can I rotate the filter to high light certain areas?
A: A graduated neutral-density filter is an optical filter that has a variable light transmission. Typically half of the filter is of neutral density which transitions, either abruptly or gradually, into the other half which is clear. It is used to bring an overly-bright part of a scene into the dynamic range of film or sensor. For example, it can be used to darken a bright sky so that both the sky and subject can be properly exposed. There are typically two types of graduated ND filters, which are hard edge and soft edge. This particular Tiffen Graduated 0.6 ND filter is a feathered graduated ND filter, which means that there is a natural-appearing taper between the density and clear areas of the filter. This filter does not rotate.
Q: 3. is this a variable filter?
A: No, the Tiffen 67mm 6pt/2mm Grid Star Effect Filter is not a variable neutral density filter. The Tiffen 67mm 6pt/2mm Grid Star Effect Filter is designed to create multiple stars that appear to streak outward from the center of bright light sources in your scene. It does not vary the density of light entering the camera and cannot be adjusted, though you may rotate the filter to rotate the direction of the stars that are created by the filter.
Q: 4. Hi,Will this filter set work for AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR? Can you please let me know?
A: Yes, that filter kit will work on the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens. The lens uses 67mm filters and the kit includes 67mm filters.
Q: 5. What are performance differences between this filter and Tiffen Haze 2A filter
A: The Haze 2A filter http://bhpho.to/1zc5mqJ will absorb virtually all UV light, whereas the UV Haze 86 will absorb 86% of UV light. The UV Haze 86 features a Digital HT Multi-Coating, which provides strength, durability and optical clarity.
Q: 6. What is the ring material, brass or aluminum?
A: The filter ring is made of Aluminum.
Q: 7. If I use a warming filter on a bright sunny day will it affect the colors?
A: Yes Tiffen 67mm 812 Warming Filter will affect the colors in a bright sunny day. You may need to set the white balance of the camera to custom before using the filter though.
Q: 8. I have a Polarizer filter , do I need a Graduated HD filter for high contrast photos?
A: The graduated HD filter is often used to mitigate bright sky against a darker landscape. I sometimes use it in other orientations to cut down bright areas of photo I am taking - imagine taking a photo of a dark building where the bright area has a vertical orientation on the left or right, or taking a photo through a door or similar portal. On the other hand, while a polarizer might provide some general overall brightness reduction, it is generally used to emphasize darker areas that are located at right angles to the light source (such as darkening sky against the clouds in a band 90 degrees from the sun), or to eliminate or reduce glare from reflected light - light reflected from smooth surfaces is highly polarized, light reflected from rough surfaces, such as the ocean, is rather scattered and the glare can be only minimally reduced by a polarizer. So the functions are different, and the graduated filter reduces the contrast (although I guess it could be used to exaggerate the contrast) whereas the polarizer is often used to enhance contrast.
Q: 9. Is the Tiffen Circular Polarizing filter in the Tiffen 67DIGEK3 kit the same as the Tiffen 67CP Circular Polarizing filter? If not, which is the better quality?
A: Yes it includes the 67CP filter.
Q: 10. This filter is very loose (cannot fully tighten, keep rotating) when stacked on top of a B+W XS-Pro 67mm filter... Faulty unit? XS-Pro 67mm diameter slightly wider than TIffen 67mm?
A: I believe this filter is meant to be loose so that it can be easily turned to get the gradation to hit your photograph in the perfect position. Mine is loose as well and works well. It's my favorite filter!
