Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the differance between Distagon Optical Design and Planar Optical Design in Zeiss Lenses ?

A: The different names designate different optical schemes. The Planar design is used in Normal to Telephoto focal length lenses. The Distagon is a more complex designed and is used Wide Angle lenses.

Q: 2. Certainly the Macro range is great but how does it compare to standard lenses when you are doing landscapes or anything focused farther away?

A: The ZEISS Milvus 2/50M uses a floating lens element design that optimizes performance from close focus through infinity. As a result, the lens serves a dual purpose as either a close-up macro lens, or a general purpose standard lens. You can view some images at the ZEISS Flickr site: https://a href= http://www.flickr.com/groups/carlzeisslenses/pool/tags/milvus250m, target= _blank www.flickr.com/groups/carlzeisslenses/pool/tags/milvus250m,/a or the Milvus 2/50M Flickr group: https://a href= http://www.flickr.com/groups/2885243@N21/ target= _blank www.flickr.com/groups/2885243@N21//a

Q: 3. Is there any noticeable focus breathing when shooting video ?

A: 50mm lenses, even cheap ones, barely breathe at all. I would suspect you would need a laser microscope to measure the breathing on any Zeiss 50mm Milvus.

Q: 4. I have Otus 55...will this lens be equal/better/worse?

A: The ZEISS Milvus 50mm f/2M ZE Macro Lens for Canon EF is a macro lens and the ZEISS Otus 55mm f/1.4 ZE Lens for Canon EF is not. Optically the 55mm is a higher level line and is sharper.

Q: 5. Is there a firmware update to make this compatible with the Nikon Df?

A: No, the ZEISS Milvus 50mm f/2M ZF.2 Macro Lens for Nikon F is already compatible with Nikon Df.

Q: 6. When is Zeiss going to make this for Sony FE mount?

A: We are not privy to Zeiss' FE lens roadmap or any info regarding the reengineering of the Milvus line. Please contact Zeiss directly or keep an eye out of news updates from them on their website. :)

Q: 7. I have some sample photos I would like to upload on my review post, however, I can't find an option to upload a photo. Can anyone help me out with that?

A: In order to upload any sample photos take with the Zeiss Milvus 50mm f/2M ZE Macro lens for Canon EF, you may submit a product review here https://bhpho.to/3MGtgqO

Q: 8. What kind of warranty/service comes from Zeiss with the lens, how many years of protection do they offerr? Do you recommend buying extra protection?

A: This lens would come with a 2-Year Warranty, Extendable to 3 Years with Online Registration. The add o warranty runs alongside the manufacturers warranty, but it would also cover drops and spills and world wide coverage

Q: 9. Does this item come with Rack mount ears?

A: The Quest Commercial M-65 does not include rack ears, but they are available separately (BH #QURKM3565).

Q: 10. How would this f2/M look in a medium shot during an interview in comparison to the f/1.4 ZE?

A: This is a difficult question to answer, since some of the differences are subjective. If judging contrast and sharpness, you can view the MTF charts in the technical data sheets located at a href= http://zeiss.com/photo. target= _blank zeiss.com/photo./a This will allow you to compare how the Milvus 2/50M appears at wide open aperture to the new Milvus 1.4/50. Aside from this, the main differences are in the DOF and out of focus qualities. In this case, neither is better than the other, it is a matter of your own tastes and needs.
