Designed as a workhorse mic for vocal and instrument recording as well as streaming applications, the black Yamaha YCM01 is a studio microphone with an XLR output and a cardioid polar pattern, which helps to focus audio capture on the sound source in front of the mic, picking up less background sound from the rear and sides.

The side-address mic offers a traditional 3-pin XLR output for use with a wide variety of professional audio equipment and a 48V phantom power source is required for operation. The microphone features an electret condenser capsule, which provides a 30 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response and can handle SPLs up to 130 dB. A stand adapter and pouch are included.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have a small production coming up where I have to record someone singing. Is than an appropriate mic for singing vocals? The talent will be listening to the music via headphones so this mic will only capture her voice.

A: For a recording application like the one you are describing, the Senal SC-550X would be a great model to consider for this application.

Q: 2. Is it capable of handling heavy guitar distortion?

A: Maximum Input Sound Level: 137dB

Q: 3. Is there a specific type of interface that must be purchased to work with this?

A: As the other respondents said it is an XLR connection, however not all USB interfaces can provide the phantom power that condenser microphones need. Make sure that your interface or whatever mixer you use make sure it has phantom power (48v)

Q: 4. Can you help me please , can you use this for a Mac book pro or an IMac computer ?

A: Great mic. To use it with your Macbook Pro, you'll need an interface like this: https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1251657-REG/focusrite_scarlett_2i4_2nd_gen_scarlett_2i2_usb_audio.html target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1251657-REG/focusrite_scarlett_2i4_2nd_gen_scarlett_2i2_usb_audio.html/aThen you can record with audio software, even GarageBand which is already on your computer.

Q: 5. What do i need to make it a mic?

A: This kit comes with a mic. The Senal SC-550X Large Diaphragm Condenser and everything else you need to record and edit Voice Overs. It is a complete kit.

Q: 6. I hear a very loud, persistent, high-pitched ring when I record with my laptop. Is there a way to fix that? Also, my table stand does not fit the shock mount :/

A: As for the the shock mount, please double check that any smaller thread adapter inside the thread area of mount has been removed. This often can be achieved with a penny or nickel. Regarding the high pitched ring, there could be many reasons for noise issues, I do recommend calling in to our team of specialists for assistance.

Q: 7. Is this a stereo set for $1,200?

A: Yes, this is a stereo set.

Q: 8. Does this product come with a wire for it?

A: No, an XLR microphone cable is not included with the MXL 770.

Q: 9. Does work with iPhone 7 + DJI OM4 (with DJI MIMO app)?

A: Yes, however the adapter in the link bellow is necessary to make a connection to the iPhone https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1280795-REG/apple_mmx62am_a_lightning_to_3_5mm_headphone.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

Q: 10. How close do you have to be to the mic? How much noise does the mic isolate without additional isolation (foam, etc.)?

A: This is a condenser mic so it is very sensitive unlike a dynamic mic. If we a talking about recording a vocalist in the studio about 6 inches is the norm. If you are dealing with a pro they will already have good mic technique and the louder they sing they will step further back from the mic. The same is true in the other direction. If they want to get a more intimate sound to their voice they will move closer to the mic and sing much softer. By moving closer they will take advantage of what is called the Proximity Effect. Proximity Effect is the closer you are to the mic the more bass response you will get. The mic will not isolate anything for you. The mic will pick up things you will not be able to hear like air conditioning rumble, the singers shoes if they move around while singing etc. The most cost effective way of dealing with this is with an acoustic shield. Like the sE Electronics RF-X Reflection Filter which will stop the reflections in the room and give you a much more intimate sound to the vocal and help keep some of the air born noise in the room out of the mic B&H # SESEERFX. A bit bassey but with a bit of tweaking in the EQ's you should be all set.

I bought this mic a few weeks ago and I was able to use it at work for some podcasting. The shock mount slides over the mic easily and locks in place. I attached the shock mount to a Proline Desk Boom mic stand, plugged the mic, connected it to a mixer, and then connected it to a Tascam recorder. Off in running in about 5 minutes. I love that the mic comes with a case for transport. The foam protects the mic and shock mount and allows me to transport the mic without having to worry about moisture or having the mic battered around in the car. I looked at some of the audio samples today and I great great audio at a small price.

I replaced an old 2000 xl with this one. I like this brand. It's inexpensive, but a high quality, all steel construction that lasts. I use this on my editing desk, patched through a Focusrite ISA One into a Yamaha MG12UX. I use it almost daily for VO in training videos. Very sensitive. Very little noise and zero rumble. Requiring little correction in post.

The 770 captured softly spoken words clearly and a Pop Filter helped make all takes usable allowing me to focus on the aesthetics of the read.

This microphone is amazing truly amazing and can be used for pretty much anything vocals , acoustic guitar , electric guitar , drum overheads etc. It is a total workhorse! and the quality is truly phenomenal especially given the price! The bass roll off and attenuation pad allow for custom and diverse sound applications its so nice to have choice and diversity in just one microphone, and of course again the quality that comes out of this thing even compared with professional studio work this things competes head to toe couldn't tell any difference, 100% worth it ! get this mic!

We run Shure SM7b and Electrovoice Re20. For grand piano, this lowe cost unit exceeds them both. We were surprised.

Granted, you can get better performance from other much higher priced units but for a budget unit, the MXL 770 is remarkable. It even comes with a case and shock mount. And B&H gives free shipping.

Really, it is hard to beat this value proposition.

I've got a number of great mics in my studio, but I was looking for something more flattering to my voice. I did a lot of listening on youtube, and studied specs, response curves, etc. It looked like the 770 would do the job, at a very affordable price, so I bought it.

I'm very pleased with the mic. It sounds better on my voice than the far more expensive AT4050, SM7b, and RE320. Those are great mics, and the MXL won't replace them, but for this application it's the clear winner. (I'm using it without engaging the high-pass filter or -10 db pad, but those could be useful features for some applications.)

The sound quality is silky, without being mushy. Sonic detail is good. That 10K bump is a bit much, but I'm using a foam windscreen to reduce plosive noise, and that tames the highs quite well.

At this price, I didn't expect the build quality to be as good as the more expensive mics, and it it's not: the materials are lighter weight; the grille is not nearly as dent-resistant. But it's still well made, and the assembly is flawless. The shock mount is decent, and the carrying case is sturdy, and a nice plus.

A studio engineer once told me that every mic is the best mic for something. In this case the 770 is the best mic I've tried for recording my vocals.
