The 55mm UV-Haze #010 MRC MASTER Filter from B+W blocks UV light, which can cause blurring and a blueish cast. An invisible component of daylight, UV light is more intense in pure sea air and high mountain regions. This filter is color-neutral and can be kept on your lens even when you don't need it, simply to protect the front of the lens. The filter element is made of glass and is highly transparent.

Featuring B+W's MRC nano coating, the filter has an extremely low reflection. The optical information remains unaffected when it reaches the image sensor. The hydrophobic coating reduces the adhesion tendency of dirt particles and water droplets. With MRC nano coating, a water droplet remains practically spherical. It rolls over the surface, and a first-rate dirt- and water-repellent effect occurs.

A really nice filter. The new B W Master filter's have a kind of rubberized, deep grove outer ring. (Made to compete with the excellent Breakthrough Photography X4 filters.) Since it was almost the same price as other B W 55mm UV-Haze filters. I purchased it for a recently purchased small spotting scope.
I have, and use a lot of B W filters. But; recently I have gone over to many Breakthrough Photography X4 UV-Haze filters, and X4 Circular polarizer filters.

I've always opted for B+W's top UV's for many years now. They are super thin, with top-notch Schneider optical glass, and have most excellent anti-reflective coatings, rivaling those on your lenses. I've never understood people putting cheap UV's on top of their lenses which cost them hundreds, or even thousands of dollars! You really want to shoot through something like that?!

Every lens I own has a UV filter on it from the day I purchased it. While the filter makes a slight improvement in haze reduction, my primary motivation is protection of the front lens element. Since I occasionally photograph in inhospitable locations, replacing a damaged filter is preferable to having to replace a damaged lens.
