This 77mm MRC Nano Master #806 ND Filter from B+W is a precision-crafted neutral density filter that reduces an exposure by 6 stops for finer control over exposure settings. By increasing the density evenly across the entire image area, the depth of field can be reduced to help isolate the image subject, even in brightly lit conditions. In addition, the shutter speed can be reduced to increase image blur and enhance the sense of movement, or smooth out the look of rushing water.

All filters of the new Master filter line are equipped with the exclusive Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) nano premium coating technology. This high-quality broadband coating is applied on both sides and enhances the optical imaging properties, allowing uniform and increased transmittance across the entire light spectrum to be achieved, with minimal physically induced remaining reflection. The nano all-around protection on the filter glass also ensures increased scratch resistance and extremely fast, easy cleaning, providing a long filter life. The slim filter ring design is compatible with wide-angle lenses with an equivalent width of a 17mm full-frame lens. The top knurling is redesigned for enhanced gripping.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How can we clean the inside of the filter?

A: I must admit in a career of photography never needing to clean the inside of a rotating Polarizer. If for some really reason you actually had to clean the inside, that would be a task for a professional camera technician. No user serviceable parts are here.

Q: 2. Does this filter vignette with a Canon 10-22 lens at 10mm on crop sensor camera?

A: A super-wide such as this lens will inherently vignette. The filter is a high level of quality and does not add any noticeable distortion to photos.

Q: 3. does this affect colors in any way? does it desaturate colors as those cheaper ND filters?

A: Hi my friend, this is a nice piece of glass, for Shure you will have some impact in your color results. Minors, but they will be there. No free lunch. To be a variable in one piece you sacrifice something. Specially because it is affect the luminance that is very very important to color. But don't worry, you can easily fix at post, for video or photography. Best

Q: 4. Has anyone tried the Variable 82mm on a sony 16-35GM2.8? I want to know if you saw any vignetting or any issues with it. I know the 24-70gm also has the same filter thread so I was wondering just how wide you can go with the filter beefore vignetting.

A: Today's Polarizers from quality manufacturers are all made to be thin to avoid vignetting on wide lenses. This one from B+W has the coveted Thin Brass Filter Ring. You will be good.

Q: 5. I have a Sony A7S with Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS Lens and shoot video. I like the flexibility of the variable ND filter especially as I often don't have time to change filters. Is this the best for exteriors? Thanks Andrew

A: It's that or a mattbox with ND, especially for shooting Log2 or Log3 at 1600 or 3200iso.

Q: 6. How about thickness of 72mm XS-pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano? Is the thickness double as XS-Pro ND non-Vario one?

A: Since we are not sure of the thickness you are interested in and the second filter you are asking about, please email us at prophoto@bhphoto.com.

Q: 7. Hi,I was wondering 2 things about this filter:* does it have hard stops ?* what is the size of the front filter ? is it 62mm ? thanks

A: This B+W 62mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC nano Filter has hard stops from +1 to +5 stops. The front thread size on this filter is 67mm; in order to avoid vignetting, the front filter thread is oversized.

Q: 8. Will this filter fit the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 lens?

A: Yes, it fits.

Q: 9. Will I be able to use my LX100 auto lens cap or JJC auto lens cap with this?

A: You will be able to use lens caps with this filter, yes.

Q: 10. When stopped to the highest setting (5 stops) does the image degrade (sharpness, cross hatching)?

A: I've shot extensively with the 95mm, 72mm, & 67mm versions. You don't get any cross-hatching, but a definite vignette in the corners toward the 5 stop range when shooting photos. Video is not an issue as it crops to 16:9. Other than than, negligible colour cast & no sharpness issues.
