This Haida M10-II Drop-In Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized. The M10-II version comes with an upgraded aluminum frame that is made specifically to fit between a separately available Haida M10-II Filter Holder and an adapter ring. The improved aluminum alloy frame enables the filter to be closer to the filter holder resulting in better protection. Constructed from optical glass, this circular polarizer filter provides clarity, color fidelity, and independent rotation in order to adjust the intensity of its effect.

A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. The result is a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces. This circular filter clears up haze in distant landscapes and increases tonal saturation. Additionally, it allows strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun. It is ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes 10 layers of anti-reflection coatings, which also offer greater protection to the filter. The Nano coating provides an additional layer that results in an improved beading effect when the surface comes in contact with water or oil, allowing for more efficient cleaning.

Q: 1. What is the difference between the M10 Enthusiast filter kit and the M10 Enthusiast filter kit II ?

A: Graduated 3-Stop Medium-Edge ND Filter verses Graduated 3-Stop Soft-Edge ND Filter

Q: 2. What are the differences between this new Haida M10-II and the original M10 Filter Systems? Are they completely forward and backward compatible?

A: The second generation of Haida's M10 100mm filter holder, the M10-II is upgraded with a nonslip design that allows for easier handling in most weather conditions. It also has a new locking design for quicker attachment to adapter rings. New filter guides snap into place rather than requiring screws to be used as in the predecessor version. Also, a new locking knob will keep the holder in place after it has been rotated, whereas the previous generation did not have a rotation lock. This works with the same holder adapters and filters as the previous generation.

Q: 3. Does this clear on the canon 17-120mm PL mount lens?

I first used this at the Pensacola Renaissance Festival. It was a very sunny day and I was surrounded by tons of people and events to photograph, to include a falconry demonstration. This filter was easy to use and rotate to the needed setting, all the while remaining secure on the lens. It threaded on easily with no hint of cross threading. Very happy with the how all of the photos came out with the skies excellent outcome.

After my recent move up to the D610 FX I decided I wasn't going to put possibly inferior filters in from of my sensor, so opted for the Nikon CP II. I use it primarily for landscape shooting and have only had one opportunity to use it so far, but it's all I hoped it would be. I'm still getting use to the thin profile of it because it's so thin, it's easy to turn the whole thing rather than just the outer ring. The threading quality is excellent...with is both a positive and negative. It's a positive because it doesn't get stuck on the lens, it's a negative because it doesn't get stuck on the lens. More specifically...it's easy if you're not paying attention to turn the whole thing, loosening it on the lens, rather than just the outer ring. As far as image quality...it's a perfect, distortion free piece of glass.

Works as advertised. The filter is able to be spin in either direction independently of the screw-in attachment to get the desired effect. Price wasn't the cheapest but I wanted a decent filter that I could trust to do its job.
